Applying The Electronic Dictionary To Improve The Students Pronounciation At The Eihghth Grade Of MTs Al-Hidayah Bakke

The objective of this research improved of the students‟ pronunciation by applying
the electronic dictionary in learning process. The sample of this research was the students
of MTs Al-Hidayah bakke at the eighth class. Technique of selected sample used is
random sampling that consists of 10 students to study about pronouncing words by using
electronic dictionary as a treatment. This research is a quantitative research, which used
experimental study as a research design. Generally, there are a lot of students could speak
words or some vocabularies in English but they could not speak with good
pronunciation.In English the writing was different with the sound. The spelling was not as
a basic to guide reader to know how a word was pronounced. It was one of the reason
why the learner felt difficult to learning english pronunciation, it was different with
indonesian language that had a similiarty between the writing and the sound in
pronunciation. The significant problems they faced in society daily conversation were
they often used their mother tongue more than English. Therefore still many students less
practice of english pronunciation and students was difficult to make a good speaking in
english specially in pronunciation. The researcher used test as instrument, the test was
recording of students‟ speaking by applying the electronic dictionary as a media in
learning to improve students‟ pronunciation ability. The result of the students‟ mean score
before and after treatment, the mean score obtained by the students in the post-test (65,00)
was greater than the mean score of the students in pre-test (58,20).Before giving
treatments, 6 (60%) students get good classification, 3 (30%) get low, 1 (10%) get very
low in pronunciation 10 words that has given from the researcher and no one of them is
classified as excellent and good classification. While after giving treatments. 1 (10%)
student gets good, 6 (60%) students get fair and 3 (30%) students get low classification in
pronouncing 10 words that has given by the researcher to the students and no one student
gets excellent and very low classification.It assumes that applying the electronic
dictionary in learning are very helpful to improve students' pronunciation ability because
there was significant improvement from students after treatment was done.
A. Conclusion
Applying the electronic dictionary of this research shows that the result of
student pre-test before doing treatment by using electronic dictionary as a learning
media. There were 6 (60%) students got good classification, 3 (30%) got low, 1
(10%) got very low in pronouncing 10 words that had given from the researcher and
no one of them was classified as excellent and good classification. On the contrary to
the result of the students‟ pre-test above, the result of student post-test after doing
treatment by applying the audio of electronic dictionary in learning pronunciation,
show that there were a significance improvement where 1 (10%) student got good, 6
(60%) students got fair and 3 (30%) students got low classification in pronouncing 10
words that had given by the researcher to the students and no one student got
excellent and very low classification.
The description of the data collected through the tests was proved that the
method that used has an improvement. It is supported by the mean score rate of the
result of the students‟ pre-test and post-test of total sampling. The result shows that
the mean score of students post-test improve after giving the treatment. It can be seen
through the mean score of the student pre-test which was 58,00 (low classification)
becomes 65,00 (fair classification) in the post-test. Researcher assumes that applying
the electronic dictionary as a learning media in learning pronunciation was effective
because there was significant improvement in pronunciation ability from students

after treatment was done. This can be seen in the results of the mean score of students
and the standard deviation after post-test treatment.
B. Suggestion
1. For Teacher
The teacher should give the students more knowledge about basic material
ofpronunciation especially about vowels and consonants. At least students can
know how the form of each symbols in vowel and consonants. The teacher also
should give space of students to speak up in the class although only vocabularies
in order students can familiar with the vocabularies in English and can speak
naturally with a good pronunciation later
2. For Students
The students should realize that speaking skill is not instant skill acquisition
especially when they know that pronunciation as one of the most important
components in speaking is not as easy as other skills. In learning pronunciation
need much time, effort and also hard willing so that in this research, the students
have to more pay attention to learn about pronunciation, based on the reality,
right know many students always with their phone, so that the researcher choose
application that can download from the phone to learn about pronunciation,
hopefully it makes students more easy in learning pronunciation.
3. For Researcher
For the following research, the researcher expects there will be an
innovative way to improve student pronunciation inside out more suitable for
students. In this research only focus on students improvement pronunciation
especially, in using vowels, consonants and word stress and only give some
vocabularies to train students‟ pronunciation. Hopefully to the other researcher
for the next, can develop their assessments in learning pronunciation and make
students or their sample can make a good pronunciation in pronouncing sentence.
