Using Summarizing Strategy to Improve Reading Comprehension of The Second Grade Students’ of SMAN 1 Bone

The objective of this study is to improve reading comprehension by using
summarizing strategy to the second grade students of SMAN 1 Bone academic year
2020/2021. The design of the study is quasi-experimental study. The subjects of the
research were 34 students of grade XI at SMAN 1 Bone. The experimental class was
taught reading comprehension by using summarizing strategy while the control class
was taught by using conventional way. There was one type of data is quantitative
data. The quantitative data were collected through assessing the students’ reading
comprehension by means of the pre-test and post-test. The data were the students’
reading test scores. The validity of the data was obtained by using SPSS (Statistical
Package for the Social Science). The data of the test which were in the form of the
gained score was analyzed by using t-test with the significant level of p=0,05. In the
pre-test of control class, mean score is 41.18, and mean score in post-test is 46.18,
While the pre-test of experimental class is 57.65 and the mean score of post-test is
71.18. From the mean score of both classes look difference value, the result shows
that the post-test of experimental class was better than post-test of control class. The
result of significance test (t-test) post-test control class and experimental class is
0,02
