This study was aimed at improving students’ English grammar in MAN 1
Bone XI Bahasa class in the academic year of 2020/2021. The research used
WhatsApp group as a media to communicate with students. Face to face could not
be implemented because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The technique of analyzing
data was applied by using quantitative data with pre-experimental design (one-
group pretest-posttest design). The quantitative data was taken from the test. The
participant of the study are 25 students. They were purposefully assigned as the
sample of the study. Before starting the treatment, two similar tests were prepared
as the pretest/posttest to find out students’ writing skill in studying English noun
phrase through picture-words media at the beginning and at the end of the study,
IBM SPSS Statistics 22 was used to investigated weather studying English noun
phrase through picture-words media was effective in improving students’ English
grammar.
The finding showed significant differences between the result of pretest
and posttest. The mean of post-test scores (87) was larger than the mean of pre-
test scores (67). Also, the way to test whether the null hypothesis could be
rejected was by comparing p-value with the standard level of significance, 0.05.
The convention to reject the null hypothesis is when the p-value of the obtained
statistics is less than 0.05. The finding showed that p-value was less than 0.05
(0.000 < 0.05). Thus, there was enough evidence indicating that the null
hypothesis could be rejected. Found the real difference between the result studied
on pretest and posttest data. It could be concluded that students’ English grammar
improved in studying English noun phrase through picture-words media.
A. Conclusion
From the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that this
chapter is the answer to all problem formulations. As for the conclusions, among others,
as follows:
The mean score of students to be improve in post-test and significance. It shows
that the significant score between pretest posttest and weren’t correlation It shows the
significant score (2-tailed) and found the real difference between the result studied on
pretest and posttest data.
B. Suggestion
Based on the findings of this study, the following will provide some suggestions
that are useful for MAN 1 Bone relate to picture-words media in studying English noun
phrase to improve students’ ability in English Grammar. As for the suggestions that can
be given by researchers as follow:
Based on the research results, it was found that studying English noun phrase
through picture-words media had an effect on the improvement of students’ ability in
English Grammar. So, in the future how can the teacher pay attention to the students’
ability in English. for example, there are students who find it difficult to compose phrases
even sentences. Then use the picture-words method, students can learn fast, easy and fun
without having to memorize every rule. They should train themselves for studying
English through picture-words media.
