The effectiveness of dubbing movie strategy on students‟ speaking competence At The Fourhth Semester Of STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone

This study purposes to know the effectiveness of dubbing movie strategy on
students‟ speaking competence. Based on the purpose, the research intended to
answer this question, “How is the effectiveness of using dubbing movie strategy on
students‟ speaking competence?”. The researcher chose STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone
as the place of doing research where she takes six students of the fourth semester
English major as the participant. In doing this study, the researcher also used
descriptive analysis in form of qualitative. The first research step done of the
researcher is observation, by doing an observation. The researcher got information
about the situation of the campus, how about the students‟ condition, and the quality,
the researcher also observed students responses when applying the research started
from aspect I process until aspect III. On the observation section, the researcher gave
twice test to the students; the first test was given when on the first observation and the
second test in the end meeting of the research. Besides that, the researcher also used
questionnaire as the additional data. The questionnaire included 10 positive questions
about the strategy used. After doing observation, speaking test and also questionnaire,
it found that there is a change find after applying the strategy, in simply, the
researcher concludes that dubbing movie strategy is effective on students speaking
competence at STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone. It is because the prove of data result
which is found an improvement although just a bit from the test I to the test II
coupled with speaking test, questionnaire and observation results during the research,
some of which have a good effect after the implementation of the strategy.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion above, the researcher came to
conclusions. The researcher gets closer to the fact that the dubbing movie strategy is
effective on students speaking competence as the answer of the problem statement. It
is got from the applying of some instruments have been applied including
observation, speaking test, and questionnaire. According to the result of observation
which is done twice which had been include speaking test and also questionnaire with
the English teacher and also the students, the researcher concludes that there is a
positive effect got from the use of dubbing movie strategy on students speaking
competence. It is also proved by the speaking test where the average of students score
is got B or “good” classification and one to two students who got C “fair”
classification in both of the test. It proves that students joined the process of
observation calmly and following the instruction of the researcher correctly, it also
supported by the questionnaire result which both of the test found that dominant of
students stated agree that dubbing movie strategy is effective on students speaking
competence related to the test result of the speaking test where the conclusion result,
the research finds that there are about five students who get high classification, it
meant that there are many person who chose agree than not.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher put some suggestion as
follows:
1. For Teacher
The teacher should give the students more space to speak up in the class
with some considerations. Firstly, identify the character of students whether
they are shy or confident enough and also paid attention with the other focus
assessment of speaking like pronunciation, intonation, accuracy, fluency, and
performance.
2. For Students
The students are supposed to maximize the technology to make all
simpler. They have the Hand Phone, so they can use it to serve the material
such as other strategy, method and also technique as the reference in studying
speaking competence.
3. For Researcher
Hopefully it can be reference to doing other researcher related to the
recent research or trying to explore other ways to encourage speaking.
