The Effectiveness of Using Phonics Approach to Develop the Students Ability in Reading Aloud at the Tenth Grade of SMAN 9 Bone

This thesis presents the research about ”The Effectiveness of Using Phonics
Approach to Develop the Students Ability in Reading Aloud at Tenth Grade of
SMAN 9 Bone”. This research used quantitative method which used pre-experimental
research with one group pre-test and post-test. The researcher used cluster sampling.
The sample consisted of 21 students from the X IPA 2 of SMAN 9 Bone. The
researcher gave pre-test, treatments, and post-test. The data on the students‟ reading
aloud were analyzed by using SPSS 25. The pre experimental research was given pre-
test, treatment and post-test in collecting the data.
The data analysis shows that using phonics approach develop the students in
reading aloud. It can be seen from the comparison data between the mean score of
post-test was significantly higher than pre-test (78,7619> 68,5238). After getting the
treartment. Thus, there is development in students reading after using phonics. Sig.(2-
tailed)in equal variances assumed is 0,000 and in equal variances not assumed is
0,000. both of them are 68,5238. it means that there is
significant different between pre experimental one group in pre test and post test
(after giving the treatment).it indicates that (2-tailed)is 0,0000.005 H0 rejected.it is shows that there is significant
difference between the students‟ reading aloud after giving the treatment by
phonics approach. Thus, it can be said that there is developing in students‟ reading aloud
achievement after applying using phonics approach in the teaching reading aloud
and using phonics approach can improve the students‟ reading aloud
B. Suggestion
In order to improving the students‟ reading skill, the researcher gives suggestion
to all readers, especially to English teacher and to the students as follows :
1. The english teacher should be apply an approriate method in teaching
learning process that effectively can improving students reading aloud. Thus,
using phonics approach is recommended.
2. The english teacher should be creative to manage the teaching material and
the classroom and do not use monotonous way in teaching reading so that the
students more interested and the english teacher should be give motivation to
study in classroom.
3. The students are expected to increase their interest and ability in learning
reading aloud.
4. For the other researcher. It is suggested that other researcher mayusethe
research results as information or reference to conduct the research with the
similar topic in the same design about the develop students‟ reading aloud by
using phonics approach with different subject.
