An Analysis The Students’ Difficulties In Listening English Short Conversation At Eleventh Grade Of Sman 13 Bone

This research aims to know the students’ difficulties in listening English
short conversation faced by eleventh grade.
The subject of this research is the eleventh grade of SMAN 13 Bone. The
reseacher choosing the subject by using random sampling way. The researcher
chooses XI MIPA 7 as the subject of this research. The participants of this researcher
are 24 students. This research used descriptive qualitative design. Technique of data
analysis consists of listening test and interview. The test focuses to know the
students’ listening ability. Thus, interview focuses on finding the students’ difficulties
faced in listening English short conversation.
The result of the research shows that the student’s listening ability indicated
very low level especially in listening English short conversation. Based on result test,
all of the students got difficulties in answer question about focus on the last line,
listen for wishes, and listen for expression of uncertainly and suggestion. Based on
the students’ interview, the researcher would like to draw the conclusion that the
students’ difficulties faced in listening English short conversation divided into 3:
based on the difficulties related to the material, difficulties related to low
concentration and the last, difficulties related to the speaker.
A. Conclusion
The purpose of the research was to find out the difficulties faced by eleventh
grade in listening short conversation at SMAN 13 Bone. Based on the data analyzes
in chapter III, it can be concluded that, all of students has difficulties in listening
short conversation. Based on the test result, the researcher conluded that all of the
students have difficulty in answering question focus on the last line, listen for wishes,
and listen for expression of uncertainly and suggestion. Based on interview, there are
three major difficulties in listening short conversation that were found in analyzing
students’ difficulties, they were: difficulties related to the material, difficulties related
to low concentration, and difficulties related to the speaker. Hence, the students have
to have more practice to improve their listening especially in listening short
conversation.
After analyzing five students’ test and interview result in listening short
conversation, the researcher would like to draw the conclusion that: (1) Based on the
difficulties related to the material, two students state that he can not answer the
question because of his English lesson limited or lacking so that he can not
understand the material of the English lesson. (2) For difficulties related to low
concentration, two students state that they difficult to answer the question because
they can not concentrate during listening the audio of short conversation if around of
them is noisy. (3) and last, difficulties related to the speaker . many students state that
the speaker speaks too fast and they can not understand what the speaker is saying.
Also the students can not clearly listen the speaker pronuntciation so that they can
not understand because of the speaker pronunciation.
B. Suggestion
There are some suggestions in relation with the difficulties in listening short
conversation result.
1. The Students
This research is expected for students to know their difficulties faced in
listening short conversation.
2. The Teachers
The result of this research can be usefull for the teacher to know the
students’ difficulties faced in listening short conversation. The teacher should set
more listening activities for students in case they can more chances to give their effort
in listening English especially short conversation.
3. The Other Researcher
The other researcher will get information about the difficulties faced in
listening short conversation by eleventh grade and this research can be references for
other researcher who conducts the same object with the different perspective
