An Analysis Of Students Error In Using Preposition Of Place In Writing Descriptive Text At The Eight Grade Of Mtsal-Zaky Pattiro Sompe

This thesis examines research on an analysis of students’ error in using
preposition of place in writing descriptive text at the eight grade of MTs Al-Zaky
Pattiro Sompe. As humans, we cannot avoid mistakes but we can prevent mistakes
a little. To prevent errors, we must know the cause of the errors that occur. This
study aimed to determine the types of the students’ errors in writing and to find
out the causes of these errors. Thus, this study used a qualitative method. With
this method, the researcher can categorize and analyze errors that made by the
students. The researcher focused on two activities, those called interview and test.
The researcher categorized four types of error, namely omission, addition,
misformation and misordering. From the result, the researcher found that the
students often made errors in the misformation. All of students made errors in this
category. They got the score from a test that contained 39 questions that were
missing. From the test, the researcher obtained 79 errors from five students. The
most errors were in the preposition “in” which were 37 errors. In the preposition
“on”, the students got 27 errors. And the last, in the preposition “at”, the students
got 15 errors. The causes of their errors were made because the distinguishing of
the use of preposition of place. They thought the preposition of place had the
same function. Most of students were weak in the vocabulary. They often made
the error even they had hear the translated.
A. Conclusion
From the result obtained from analysis and discussion in the previous
chapter, the researcher would draw conclusion as follow:
1. The students’ type of error in the use of preposition of place in writing
descriptive text was misformation. All of them had done error in
misformatrion in writing. They used the preposition that not correct in the
sentence. So, they got error in their written.
2. The causes of the students’ error in the use of preposition of place in
writing descriptive text were the understanding, unknown and forgotten.
The causes of students’ errors were intralingual error, unknown the rules,
difficulty in distinguishing the preposition, and lack of vocabulary.
B. Suggestion
Writing is a way to expressing our idea, feeling, and thought. Writing is
used by people almost every day and every hour. The people use writing to
send the letter, message or an e-mail. There are so many kinds of writing. One
of them is descriptive text. In writing descriptive text, there are some rules that
we have to be attention. In descriptive text there are preposition of place that
have to be used. The kinds of preposition of place are at, in, and on. But, some
of people have problems in using preposition. They do not know when they
have to use at, in, and on. It also occurs in the students of MTs Al-zaky.
Therefore, we have to know the kinds of preposition of place and the
use of them. We cannot mastery the English if we are careless about something
small. So, start study from the small things to the big things.
