Improving Reading Skill by Using Chunking Strategy at the Eleventh Grade Students of MAN 2 Bone.

This research was conducted about “Improving Reading Skill by Using
Chunking Strategy at the Eleventh Grade of MAN 2 Bone”. The objective of this
research was to find out whether chunking strategy improve students’ reading skill or
not.
In conducting this research, the researcher used pre-experimental design. The
population of this research was 257 students. This research used cluster random
sampling. The sample of this research was 20. The data was collected by using
students’ test and data was analyzed by SPSS.
The result of the analysis showed that chunking strategy was very useful to
improve students’ reading skill. It can be shown by the diffrences of the mean score
obtained by the students in the post-test (75.50) is greater than the mean score of the
students in pre-test (38.75). The researcher inferred that the students’ reading skill
had improvement by using chunking strategy.
A. Conclusions
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes the result of this research shows that studying narrative text
through by using chunking strategy is one strategy that can improve the students’
reading skill. It can be seen of the students of XI MIPA 1 at MAN 2 Bone had
improvement in reading skill after applying chunking strategy, especially in narrative
text. The researcher proves the data that the most of students get poor score
classification with mean score of students’ pre-test is 38.75. The students’ reading
skill after applying chunking strategy is significantly improve, it is showed by the
data that most of students get good and enough classification with mean score of
students’ post-test is 75.50.
B. Suggestions
In view of the fact that chunking strategy had been proved to improve the
students’ reading skill especially in narrative text, the reseacher would like to give
suggestions as follows:
1. The teacher could use chunking strategy as references strategy in teaching
reading. Therefore, the students is always stimulate the students’ interest
and motivate them in learning reading. Also The teacher should be creative
moreover, the education system needs them to improve the teaching skill
according to the up to date technology. Now days, the internet is widely
used by lots of people. There are many websites that can be accessed to get
new strategy in teaching. The equipment also should be sophisticated and
functioned perfectly to the students in class.
2. The students of XI MIPA 1 at MAN 2 Bone keep studying to be better.
3. The other researcher is suggested that other researcher may use the research
results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the similar
topic in the same design to improve the students’ reading skill with different
subject.
