The Use of Clustering Technique to Improve Students’ Writing Skill of Descriptive Text at the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 18 Bone

This script presented research about Teaching Writing in Descriptive Text by
using clustering technique at the eleventh grade students of SMAN 18 Bone. This
research used quantitative method which used pre-experimental research with one
group pre-test and post-test. The researcher used cluster sampling. The sample
consisted of 25 students from the XI MIA 3 of SMAN 18 Bone. The researcher gave
pre-test, treatments, and post-test. The data on the students’ writing ability were
analyzed by using SPSS 21. This result of this research showed that the students have
good ability in writing after learning about clustering technique. It can be seen from
the comparison data between the mean score of post-test was significantly higher than
pre-test (78.56>47.08). Based on independent sample t-test that the score Sig. (2-
tailed) .000 < 0,05, it means there was different significant of the result learning of
experimental class. The students’ achievement in writing descriptive text improves
after giving some treatments by clustering technique. So, it can be concluded that
there is a highly significant effect of clustering technique to increase students’ writing
descriptive text.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and the discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes that:
Clustering technique gave the positive effect on students’ ability to generate
ideas in writing descriptive text. It could be seen that the students’ prior
knowledge of writing is still low, it is provided in the data that most of the students
mean score in pre-test was 47.08 and it increased after applying clustering
technique. The students’ mean score in post-test was 78.56. Independent Sample t-
test (Sig. 2-tailed) that the significant score of the experimental and control group
was .000, it means there was different significant of the result learning of
experimental and control group. Based on independent sample t-test that the score

learning of experimental class. The students’ achievement in writing descriptive
text improves after giving some treatments by clustering technique.
B. Suggestion
The researcher gives suggestions to all readers, as follows:
1. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggests to the
English teachers, especially in writing the teachers should apply the good
technique in pre writing to teach English writing based on the students’
motivation. Applying clustering technique can help the students’ generate ideas
in writing descriptive text.
2. The teachers should give the material well and should give their good
performance in the classroom. Besides, the teachers should pay attention to the
students’ activity while teaching learning process.
There are many techniques which can be used to increase students’ writing
ability and make the learning process more fun. Clustering technique is one of the
techniques which can be used or teachers can use another technique which is
appropriate with the subject which will be learned.
