Building Up The Students’ Enthusiasm to Learn Past Tense through Storytelling at The Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Bone

This research is about building up the students’ enthusiasm to learn past tense
through storytelling at the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Bone. This research used
qualitative method that use descriptive research. Most students are interested in
storytelling or tell story but they cannot speak English well and fluently.
The main problem is that they think it is difficult to talk so they cannot speak
naturally in English. Apart from those lacking vocabulary, they also cannot use tenses
correctly. Especially simple past tense that this tense is used in storytelling. They are
confused to determine the form and the verb which suitable. Regarding data analysis,
this research used observation and interview. Observation is used to analyze students’
enthusiasm through the observation list that researcher have compiled and interview
is used to further identify students’ enthusiasm along with the reasons to learn past
tense through storytelling.
The results of this research indicates that students are very enthusiastic
because many interesting things that can be taken like getting a lesson, motivation,
many tenses in the story that can be learned and are curious about the incident what
would happen.
They are enthusiasthic about learning past tense through storytelling because
they feel glad, give attention, interest, and involvement. So, it can be stated that by
using storytelling technique, students’ enthusiasm can be built to learn past tense.
A. Conclusion
Based on research findings and discussion, this research is aim to build up
the students’ enthusiasm to learn past tense through storytelling at the tenth grade
students of SMAN 1 Bone.
Based on the findings and discussion, the result of this research, the
researcher gave conclusions most of the students are enthusiastic to learn past tense
through storytelling. Although sometimes the students is difficult to storytelling
fluently because English still become foreign language for them. But they keep
enthusiastic because most of them like storytelling.
Based on the students’ interview, the researcher got the data that most of the
students are enthusiastic. Because they are feeling glad, give attention, interest, and
involvement to learn past tense through storytelling.
B. Suggestion
Based on the result of the research, the researcher would like to give some
suggestions which hopefully will give valuable and useful contribution to the teachers
and students in enthusiastic learning English, especially in past tense learning through
storytelling.
1. For the English teacher
a. Give more practice in past tense to their students in order to make them more
fluent in past tense.
b. Give more drills and practice to the students’ in learning past tense.
2. For the Students
a. Have a good sense of self in their enthusiasm to learn past tense.
b. Look up the dictionary if they find some new vocabularies and try to
pronounce.
c. Give more attention to vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation since learning
English concern all of these skills.
3. For the other researcher
a. The researcher wishes this thesis can help another researcher to build up the
students’ enthusiasm to learn past tense, this research can be a reference for
the next observation.
b. The researcher realizes that this thesis is far from beings complete, therefore
criticism and corrections for the improvement of this research.
