Riswan/02.15.4086 - Personal Name
This research aims to know the students’ grammatical error and students’
difficulties in applying impromptu speech technique.
The subject of this research is the third semester of English study program of
IAIN Bone. In choosing the subject, the researcher takes it by using purposive
sampling way. The researcher chooses 17-TBI 5 as the subject of this research and
the researcher just takes 10 students from the class.
This research used descriptive qualitative design. Technique of data analysis
consists of test and interview. The test focuses to find out the students’ grammatical
error in applying impromptu speech technique. Thus, interview focuses on finding the
students’ difficulties in applying impromptu speech technique.
The result of the research shows that the students make morphological and
syntactical error during their speaking. There are 8 students make morphological
error. The common error made by the students is error in attaching –s for plural noun.
For the syntactical error, all the students make error. The common students’ error in
syntax is omission of auxiliary verb “to be”. It shows that the students’ speaking
ability cannot be said “good” because there are many errors occurs when applying
impromptu speech technique.
Based on the students’ interview, the researcher got the data that most of the
students face some difficulties when speak extemporaneously. There are 6 difficulties
admitted by the students. They are material representation, lack in vocabulary,
grammar, need a concept, embarrassed, and less idea. The difficulty faced by most
students is lack in vocabulary
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher draws conclusion of the students’
common grammatical error in applying impromptu speech technique. According to
the research findings, the researcher concludes that there are 8 from 10 students who
make morphological error. The common morphological error occurs is the student
don’t attaching –s for plural noun. For the syntactical error, there are 10 students
make error. It means all the students make syntactical error. The common error
occurs are omission of auxiliary verb “be” and omission of pronoun and preposition.
The researcher assumes the students speaking ability couldn’t be said “good”
because the errors occurred from the students’ speaking is more than the researcher
expected.
Based on the students’ interview, the researcher concludes that students face
6 difficulties when applying impromptu speech technique. They are material
representation, lack in vocabulary, grammar, need a concept, embarrassed, and less
idea. The difficulty faced by most students is lack in vocabulary. There are 6
students said that lack in vocabulary is their problem. The researcher assumes the
difficulties occurs because of the students don’t have high motivation in learning
English. It makes them lack in vocabulary, having low self confidence, and less
practice particularly speaking.
B. Suggestion
Considering the conclusion above some suggestions are presented in this
part. This research will hopefully contribute both practical and theoretical values.
Realizing that the students make many errors and also face some difficulties in
applying impromptu speech technique, in this research the researcher would like to
give some suggestions to the teacher, the students and the other researcher.
1. For the lecturer
The lecturer should pay attention to the students’ vocabulary and give
them more exercises to speak often. The lecturer also may give the students
motivation by being the example for the students.
2. For the students
The students should learn more about English. Improve their skill in
English, not only in speaking but also all the skills in English. The students
have to pay attention to their errors so they know which part to fix. To face
the students’ difficulties, the students’ should motivate their selves first. Then,
study frequently wherever they are.
3. For the other researcher
For the other researcher, this research could be a reference to make
another research related to this research. Try to use the impromptu speech
technique to assess students speaking ability or any other purposes.
