An Analysis of Students’ Translation Erros in the Story if Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih at the Elevent Grade of Students of SMAN 18 Bone

The main purpose of the research was to analyze the types of students’
errors in translating the story of Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih.
The research method used qualitatif method, which the researcher wanted to
analyze the types of students’ errors in translating the story of Bawang Merah and
Bawang Putih. To collect the data, the resercher used test and documentation.The
analysis of the data used collect the data, data reduction, data display, and conclution
drawing. The subject of research was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 18 Bone
class XI MIA 2 which has 32 students. But the researcher chose 24 students for this
research.
The result of the study, as follow: The students contributed the three types of
students’ error in term of translation text were: 1) Cultural translation error (22), 2)
Linguistic translation error (74) and 3) Text specific translation error (5). Meanwhile,
there was no error in Pragmatic Translation Error found in this research.
A. Conclusion
This research collected some important information from the eleventh grade
students of SMAN 18 Bone in translation error of the story of Bawang Merah and
Bawang Putih using Text Analysis in Translation by Christiane Nord. Based on findings
of the research, it could be concluded that the types of translation error that occurred
in students’ translation text were: Cultural translation error, Linguistic translation
error and Text specific translation error. Meanwhile, there was no error in Pragmatic
Translation Error found in this research.
B. Suggestion
Based on the research that was carried out, the researcher would like to give
some suggestion to the teacher of English and to the students:
1. The English Teachers
Based on this research, it can be suggested that the teachers should be aware
on translation errors. thus they can recognize their students’ difficulties in translating
so they will pay more attention to the errors made by the students and the causes of
the errors in translating. Knowing the problem will make it easier for teachers to
solve the problem. The result of the research will evaluate themselves whether they
are succesfull or not in teaching English. It is expected that the teacher should
enhance the method in teaching translation so that the students are motivated to
improve their translating.
2. The English learners
It is better to know about this research , particularly related to cultural
translation error, linguistic translation error and text specific translation error.The
result of the research will show the learners in what types in translating which is
difficult for them. By paying more attention, the learners are expected to increase
their knowledge on the English translation, thus they will be aware of the errors they
made and sources of the errors. The learners are expected to develope their translation
proficiency to eliminate or at least reduce those errors.
3.To the other Researcher
It is expected that the result of the research can give an informative input
about translation error analysis or other topics related to errors. The researcher
believes that there are still many phenomena that can be revealed in this research. The
researcher expects that this result of research can inspire other researchers to conduct
the research related to translation errors analysis to enrich the existing research.
