Highlighting Physical Movement in Teaching English Vocabulary at the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 4 Watampone

This research investigated about Highlighting Physical Movement in Teaching
English Vocabulary at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 4 Watampone. The purpose of this
research to know does Physical Movement improve the students’ vocabulary
achievement. In conducting this research the researcher used an pre-experimental
design to gather the data, while a quantitative method was used to analyze them or
which is study to know whether there was improvement or not to the subject, that was
given treatment. This research was taken by the eighth grade students at SMPN 4
Watampone. The result of the analysis shows that Physical Movement is useful to
improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. It can be shown by the differences of
the mean score obtained by the students in the post-test (82,50) is greater than the
mean score of the students in pre-test (64,83). The result of the t-test also shown that
the Physical Movement is effective to improve the students’ vocabulary achievement
because the t-test 15.456, is higher than t-table, 2.045 (15.456 > 2.045). The students’
involvement and classroom interaction during the implementation of Physical
Movement were improved. It was showed by students’ enthusiasm during the
activity. They tried to be the first winner and raised their competitiveness among
them. In addition, the implementation of Physical Movement and the complementary
actions were successful to help students memorize and understand new word easily.
The researcher states that the students’ vocabulary achievement improve by using
Physical Movement.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of the research on the previous chapter, the researcher
comes to conclusion. They are follows :
Using Physical Movement in teaching vocabulary giving the positive effect
on students’ achievement to generate ideas in vocabulary. It can be seen the students’
mean score in pretest is 64,83 and increases after applying cluster technique. The
students’ mean score in post test is 82,50 and the students’ achievement t-test is
15.456 and the students’ achievement t-table is 2.045.
B. Suggestions
The researcher gives suggestions to all readers, as follows :
1. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggest to the
English teacher especially vocabulary should maintain the good strategy in
vocabulary to teach English vocabulary based on the students motivation.
Using Physical Movement can help the students’ generate ideas in vocabulary
achievement.
2. The English teacher should be more creative to choose method or strategy in
teaching-learning process especially in vocabulary, so that the students will be
more interested and enjoy to study English.
