An Analysis of the Students’ Ability in Writing Procedure Text by Using Simple Present Tense at the Twelfth Grade of SMAN 18 Bone

This thesis presented research about An Analysis of the Students’ Ability in
Writing Procedure Text by Using Simple Present Tense at the Twelfth Grade of
SMAN 18 Bone.This research used descriptive qualitative method.Thetotal members
of population were 212 students. They were distributed into 6 classes. Then,the
researcher took one class as sample with used purposive sampling technique toselect
the sample.The data of this research were students’ score in writing procedure text by
using simple present tense and interview.The data were collected by using writing test
and interview as instrument. The data analyzed by using rubric scoring.Based on the
result of data analysis, the researcherfound that the ability of the twelfth grade of
SMPN 18Bone in writing procedure text was enough.It indicated that the students’
mean score was 78, 9. The most of students’ mistakes in language use and
vocabulary. The students’ difficulties in writing procedure text by using simple
present tense were lack of vocabularies, difficult to choose correct diction (word),
confused about grammar especially form of simple present tense. Furthermore, in
language feature, they got most difficulties such as: wrong form of verb, wrong form
of be, wrong use article & no article, omission of be, wrong use of singular & plural
noun, omission of suffix-s/-es.
A. Conclutions
Based on the data analysis and discussion above, the researcher came
to conclutions. They were as follows:
1. The students ability in writing procedure text by using simple
present tense was enough. It indicated that the students’ mean
score was 78,9. The most of students’ mistakes in language use
and vocabulary.
2. The students difficulties in writing procedure text by using simple
present tense are lack of vocabularies, difficult to choose correct
diction (word), confused about grammar especially form of simple
present tense. Furthermore, inlanguage feature, they got most
difficulties such as: wrong form of verb, wrong form of be, wrong
use article & no article, omission of be, wrong use of singular &
plural noun, omission of suffix-s/-es.
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclutions above, the resercher puts forward the following
suggestion:
1. The English teachers are suggested to review the materials about
procedure text, to teach grammatical structure of procedure text,
and giving more exercises to improve students’ ability to write
procedure text.
2. For students, they are suggested to study more about grammatical
structure of procedure text, vocabulary and mechanics that should
beused, and do more exercises to write procedure text.
3. For further researcher, it is suggested to study the other relevant
aspects in writing procedure text.
