Analyzing the Students’ Problem on the Speaking Classroom Interaction at the Fourth Semester of IAIN Bone

This research was conducted to analyze the students’ problems in speaking
classroom interaction made by the students at the fourth semester of English study
program group one of IAIN Bone and described the problems of speaking.
The subject of this research was students of English study program group two
consisting twenty students. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative.
In analyzing the speaking problems faced by the students, there were
inhibition problems included worrying about making mistakes, worrying for getting
criticism, feeling shy, feeling unconfidance and feeling nervous, nothing to say
problems included lack of topical knowledge and not having motivation to express
themselves, low participation problem and mother tongue became the problem of the
students on the speaking classroom interaction.
A.Conclusion
Based on the result of data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter,
the researcher concluded that students of the fourth semester of English study
program group 2 of IAIN Bone faced the speaking problems those were: inhibition,
nothing to say, low or uneven participation and mother tongue use. It showed that the
common problem that faced by the students was mother tongue use. The students felt
that English was difficult. It made the students low of motivation to learn about
English more, so it caused the other speaking problems happened.
Based on the speaking problems that faced by the students, concepts and
ways of learning should be further improved. There were inhibition problem
included worrying about making mistakes, worrying for getting criticism, feeling
shy, feeling unconfidance and feeling nervous. Nothing to say problem included
lacking of topical knowledge and not having motivation to express themselves. Low
participation problem included mother tongue use became the problem of the
students on the speaking classroom interaction. Lacking of enthusiasm for learning,
low comprehension and not mastering the language in speaking were the problems
that required special attention for students in speaking interaction in the classroom.
In addition, parents and lecturers should be more active in improving student
learning by providing motivation and the best way to learn and practice speaking by
the students when speaking produced a good and perfect speaking. To overcome
inhibition, lecturers should provide more motivation for students to learn to express
or practice speaking more confident when speaking could be increased. Before
started speaking in the classroom, the students should prepare the concept first about
the material that would be discussed. In addition, the lecturer should provide
appropriate topics with the students and provide basic keywords or concepts at the
beginning of the lesson. For low or uneven participation problems, students should
familiarize themselves with talking to friends or professors, as well as creating small
groups and opening small discussions with group mates.
Finally, in order to solve the use of the mother tongue, students should be
bold enough to get speaking habit in front of friends and lecturers. Lecturers needed
to provide a topic that was not difficult for students to understand and changed the
mindset of students that English was easy to use when interacting. In that way, the
problems in students’ experience would be easy to resolve.
B. Suggestion
1. For the English teacher
For English teachers, they should always guide the students’ speaking by
always giving motivation and habituating the students to often speak by using
English language. The teachers also should give the best solving when the
students faced the problem especially the speaking skill, so the students’ problems
in speaking classroom interaction had to be improved.
2. For the English student
The students had to understand that speaking was important. So, the
students should improve their speaking ability by doing speaking more often or
making a speaking activity as a habit. The students also should change their
mindset that English is difficult. It would make the students motivated to learn
more about English language, especially on speaking skill in classroom
interaction.
3. For the next researcher
This research was far from the perfectness, so for other researcher should
to prepare well before and during the research. Here the researcher suggested to
the next researcher be able analyze about the solution of students' problem in
speaking. Then the different object such as the problem in speaking in the oral
production. The other researcher could analyze by using the different manner and
also the next researcher were expected to extend this research, so the reader
should have better and deeper understanding related to the study.
