Increasing Students’ Vocabulary Mastery through Storytelling at the Eleventh Grade of Students at SMAN 26 Bone

This script presents a research about Increasing Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Through Storytelling at the Elevent Grade of Students at SMAN 26 Bone. This research used quantitative design which used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test. The researcher used cluster sampling. The sample consisted of 30 students from the X1MIPA 2 of SMAN 26 Bone. The researcher gave pre-test, treatments, and post-test. The data on the students’ vocabulaty mastery were analyzed by using SPSS 20. The experimental research was given pre-test, treatment and post-test through storytelling. The result of this research shows that storytelling increased students’ vocabulary. It can be seen from the comparison data between the mean score of posttest was significantly higher than pre-test (28.13 > 20.77). So, it can be stated that teaching vocabulary through storytelling can help students to increase their vocabulary
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and the discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes that:
Through storytelling prove to be more effective to increase students’
vocabulary at the Elevent Grade of students XI MIPA.2 of SMAN 26 Bone in
academic year 2018/2019. It can be seen from the comparison data between the mean
score of post-test is significantly higher than pre-test (28,13>20,77).
B. Suggestion
In view of the fact that storytelling has been proved to be effective in teaching
to increase students’ vocabulary mastery, the researcher would like to give
suggestions as follows:
1. For the teacher
The researcher suggests to the teachers should have the technique when
teaching in the classroom. So, the students have motivation to study in the
classroom. One of the techniques which can be applied is storytelling.
2. For the students The researcher recommends to the student to use storytelling as a strategy in
learning English because there are many elements of language that can be learnt
such as vocabulary, speaking, reading and listening.
3. For the other researcher. It is suggested that other researcher may use the
research results as information or a reference to conduct the research with the
similar topic in the same design about the increase students’ vocabulary
mastery through storytelling with different subject.
