Improving Students’ Vocabulary Through Word Chains As An Instructional Media At The Eighth Grade Of SMPN 4 Watampone

This thesis presented about improving students’ vocabulary through word
chain as an instructional media at the eighth grade of SMPN 4 Watampone. In
conducting this research, the researcher used an pre-experimental design to gather the
data, while a quantitative method was used to analyze them or which is study to know
whether there was improvement or not to the subject, that was given treatment. This
research was taken by the eighth grade at SMPN 4 Watampone. The result of the
analysis showed that game Word Chain useful to improve the students’ vocabulary
achievement. It could be shown by the differences of the mean score obtained by the
students in the post-test (77,75) was greater than the mean score of the students in
pre-test (45,25). The students’ involvement and classroom interaction during the
implementation of the game were improved. It was showed by students’ enthusiasm
during the game. They tried to be the first winner and raised their competitiveness
among them. In addition, the implementation of game Word Chain and the
complementary actions were successful to help the students memorize and understand
new words easily. The researcher inferred that the students’ vocabulary achievement
improve through Word Chain.
A. Conclusion
Based on the data analysis and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher concludes the result of this research shows that studying vocabulary
through Word Chain as An Instructional Media is one material that can improve the
students’ vocabulary achievement. Before applying game word chain is still poor but
it improve after applying Word Chain. It can be proved by the mean score of pre-test
in post-test. The mean score of students’ pre-test is 45.25 and in post-test is 77.75.
Besides, the result of sig. (2-tailed) of paired sample t test (0,000) is smaller than
0,05. It means there is a significant improving in students’ vocabulary result through
word chain as an instructional media. So, H1 (Alternative hypothesis) is accepted and
H0 (Null hypothesis) is rejected. The students’ involvement and classroom
interaction during the implementation of the game were improved. It was showed by
students’ enthusiasm during the game. They tried to be the first winner and raised
their competitiveness among them. In addition, the implementation of game Word
Chain and the complementary actions were successful to help the students memorize
and understand new words easily. So, it can be said that there is improving in
students’ vocabulary achievement after applying game Word Chain.
B. Suggestion
In order to improving Students’ Vocabulary Achievement the reseacher would
like to give suggestions to all readers as follows:
1. The English teacher should be creative to manage the teaching material and
the classroom and do not use monotonous way in teaching vocabulary so
that the students more interested in learning vocabulary. So, game Word
Chain is recommended.
2. The students of SMPN 4 Watampone especially at the eighth grade have to
improve their ability in English, especially vocabulary achievement.
3. For the other researcher it is suggested that other researcher may use the
research results as information or a reference to conduct the research with
another game to improve the students’ vocabulary achievement.
