An Analysis The Ability Of Students' Translation Of A Desriptive English Text Into Indonesian At The Eleventh Grade Of Students At SMA Negeri 26 Bone

This research aims to know about the ability and the difficulties of students’
translation of a descriptive English text into Indonesian. The sample of this research
was the students of XI MIA1 at SMA Negeri 26 Bone. This research used qualitative
descriptive. Technique data analysis consists of translation test and interview.
Translation test focuses to know the students’ ability in translation descriptive
English text into Indonesian. Interview focuses to know the students’ difficulties in
translation descriptive English text into Indonesian.
The result of the students’ translation test, the researcher got the data that
there were 2 students use word to word translation. There were 3 students use group
to group translation. There were 3 students use sentence to sentence translation. The
last, there were 5 students use paragraph to paragraph translation. It means that the
students’ ability in translating a descriptive English text into Indonesian is very good.
Because, there were 5 students make a good translation with use a paragraph to
paragraph translation. When the students translate the text, the result of their
translation is natural. It almost does not feel like a translation.
The result of the student’s interview, the researcher got the data that most of
the students have some difficulties when translate a descriptive English text into
Indonesian. The students admitted the difficulty in translation in linguistic factors,
because the meaning of the word that not find in dictionary, the vocabulary is very
difficult, difficult to arrange the text into the target language, and the time to translate
is limited. The researcher concluded that the students’ difficulties in linguistic factors
were more prominent than the non-linguistic factor. It is compatible with some
related finding.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion, the researcher draws some conclusions to answer the
problem of this research as stated in the previous chapter. The answer from the
problems as follow:
1. The students’ translation test, the researcher infers that the students’ ability in
translating a descriptive English text into Indonesian is very good. Because,
there are 5 students make a good translation with use a paragraph to paragraph
translation. When the students translate the text, the result of their translation
is natural. It almost does not feel like a translation.
2. From the students’ interview, the researcher gets the data that most of the
students have some difficulties when translate a descriptive English text into
Indonesian. The students have difficulty in translation in linguistic factors,
because the meaning of the word that not find in dictionary, the vocabulary is
very difficult, difficult to arrange the text into the target language, and the
time to translate is limited. The researcher concludes that the students’
difficulties in linguistic factor are more prominent than the non-linguistic
factor. It is compatible with some related finding.
B. Suggestion
Considering the conclusion above some suggestions are presented in this part.
This research will hopefully contribute both practical and theoretical values.
Realizing that the students still have some problems in translating descriptive English
text into Indonesian, in this research the researcher would like to give some
suggestions to both the teacher and the students.
1. For the English teacher
Because the students still have problems in translating a descriptive English
text into Indonesian, the teacher should give more attention to them. The teacher
should give exercises continuously to their students. The teacher can also try to
motivate the students to learn translation, especially about descriptive text.
2. For the Students
The students should learn English harder. Especially learn about translation
descriptive English text into Indonesian. So, the students’ ability is increased. It is
also important for the students to know their ability, by which feedback will be
obtained and it is hoped that they will increase their ability in translating.
3. For the other researcher
It is suggested that other researcher may use the research results as information
or a reference to conduct the research with the similar topic in the same design about
the effectiveness of watching video with different subject.
