The Correlation between Students’ Pronunciation and Speaking Skill in the Eleventh Grade of SMA Boarding Athirah Islamic School Bone.

Most students cannot speak fluently because they lack the pronunciation of
how to pronounce words correctly. They experience difficulties when speaking
because of a lack of ability to say words. This is due to a lack of pronunciation
learning as well as a lack of practice speaking in front of the class or talking to others.
Therefore, this thesis is focused on students’ pronunciation and speaking skill. The
aim of this research is to find out the correlation between students' pronunciation and
speaking skill after being given a test.
This research is analyzed in quantitative approach with correlation design.
This research takes place in SMA Boarding Athirah Islamic School in the eleventh
grade. The researcher uses cluster sample to take all of students in the class as
sample.
The result of this research shows that based on the level of relationship, the
correlation value of 0.796 is in the correlation interval between 0.61-0.80 which
means the relationship is strong significant. Thus, there is correlation between
students' pronunciation and speaking skill in Eleventh Grade of SMA Islamic Athirah
Boarding School Bone.
A. Conclusion
The analysis of hypothesis testing in this research: "students' pronunciation
and speaking skill have a positive and significant correlation". Based on the level of
relationship, the correlation value of 0.796 is in the correlation interval between 0.61-
0.80 which means the relationship is strong significant. Moreover, the mean score of
students' pronunciation is 67.1739 and the mean score of students' speaking skills is
70.9565. The standard deviation of students' pronunciation is 2.12458 and the
standard deviation of speaking skills is 2.58454.Thus, there is correlation between
students' pronunciation and speaking skill in Eleventh Grade of SMA Islamic Athirah
Boarding School Bone.
B. Suggestion
In fact, applying materials in teaching pronunciation had been proven being
more effective. So, the researcher would like to give some suggestions as follows;
1. The English teacher should be creative in managing the material that should
be integrated into classroom.
2. The English teacher should take more consideration in mastering the sounds
system of English.
3. The English teacher should take more time in teaching pronunciation.
4. The English teacher should give more time to the student to always practice
their speaking skill by focusing on mastering the sound of the system both
outside and inside the classroom.
