A Comparative Study on Speaking Ability of Male and Female Students at the Fourth Semester of English Study Proram Students of IAIN Bone.

The objective of this research is: to find out significant difference between
male and female students on speaking ability at the Fourth Semester of English Study
Program of IAIN Bone.
This research uses quantitative method. The samples of this research are the
students at the fourth semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone in academic
year 2017/2018. The sample is chosen by simple random sampling technique and
consist of 10 males and 10 females students of TBI. The researcher collects the datas
by giving speaking test to describe a thing. The data on the students’ speaking score
are analyzed by using SPSS 21.
The mean of male is 66,5 and the mean of female is 74,0. The output of
Independent T-test of score male and female students on speaking ability, obtained
Sig value. (2-tailed) 0,150 > 0,05. The result of the research shows that there is no
significant difference between males and females students on speaking ability at the
fourth semester of English Study Program of IAIN Bone.
A. Conclusion
Based on the research that was carried out in the fourth semester of the students IAIN
Bone, the researcher might draw conclusions as below:
a. The female students reach higher points in speaking ability and the average score is
74,0. while the male students reach 66,5 score in the average.
b. After analysing the data based on the students’ speaking test, the researcher conclude
that there is no significant difference between male and female on speaking ability. It
is convinced based on the output of Independent T-test of score male and female
students on speaking ability, obtained Sig value. (2-tailed) 0,150 > 0,05, then
according to the basic of decision making in Independent sample T-test, it can be
concluded that H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected, that means that there is no
significant difference between male and female in speaking ability.
c. Most of female students have higher score in the proficiencies than male students,
including their pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and fluency.
B. Suggestion
Based on the result of the research, the researcher had some suggestions for English
teacher and other researchers as follow:
a. For english teacher
Althought, in this research conduct that there is no significant differences between
male and female on speaking ability but the teachers are supposed to pay attantion on the
factor of student sex differences.
b. For other researcher
The other researcher can make this research as their reference to conduct other
researcher on the same field. The other researcher are also expected to be able to cover
the limitation about this. They can conduct a research with the same case in different
situation and proficiency. The researcher hopes that the next researchers can prepare
everything as good as possible in doing research and can follow up this research.
