Analyzing the Students problem in Learning English to FaceNational Exam (UN) of SMP Negeri 1 Barebbo

In this research, researcher focused on the problem of students in English
language learning in dealing with national examinations of SMP Negeri 1 Barebbo
This research was a qualitative study with a case study method. The subjects
of the study were students in SMP Negeri 1 Barebbo grade 3 who had taken the
national exam this year. The research used a cluster sampling technique and took 20
participants for the questionnaire and 10 participants for the interview. In this study,
researcher used questionnaires and interviews as instruments.
From the results of the study, it was shown that the research in SMP Negeri 1
Barebbo with the title of Analyzing the Students Problem in Learning English to Face
National Exam. It can be concluded that students who take the national exam in
English subjects have problems. Including a lack of vocabulary, and subject matter.
Therefore students have difficulty working on the questions during the national exam.
As a solution, by learning harder than before and deepening vocabulary, for example,
every day students memorize five 10 words each day so students will learn more
easily and this will make it easier for them to do national exam questions and take
tutoring.
A. Conclusions
The first instrument was interview, the second was a questionnaire. Interview
and questionnaire were distributed to participants in October-November 2018.
This study aims to determine the problem of students in learning English in
taking national examinations.
1. Problems of students taking national examinations
o Students show that the highest difficulty faced by students is 59.1%
o The second highest trend (18.2%) is that respondents want another, as we are
interesting respondents with English language tutoring so that respondents
are easier to take national exams on English subjects.
o The third highest tendency (13.6%) of respondents experienced anxiety
when taking the national exam will make students not focus on answering
questions when taking the national exam.
o Respondents wanted to take the national exam guidance 9.1%
From the results of the above research, it shows that the research at SMP
Negri 1 Barebbo with the title of Analyzing The Students Problem In Learning
English To Face National Exam (UN). It can be concluded that students who take
the national exam in english subjects have problems. For the most part, students'
basic english is the first obstacle between mastery, lack of vocabulary, and subject
matter. Therefore students have difficulty working on the questions during the
national exam.
As a solution to study harder than before and deepen vocabulary so that they
are able to overcome their difficulties when taking the national exam. By
memorizing vocabulary every day, for example, memorizing five to ten words
will make students easier and students do not consider that English is difficult to
learn.
B. Suggestion
1. For educational institutions
a. It is expected that educational institutions through teachers in schools
provide optimal social support so that each student is able to solve
every problem well and the level of anxiety students face exams can be
reduced by optimizing the role of counseling counselor.
b. Schools need to organize tutoring programs for students who will face
national examinations as early as possible since students enter class

a. Optimizing existing social support resources to reduce anxiety and
discuss with parents, teachers and friends.
b. Students should learn about the national exam questions last year, so
that students can predict what questions will come out this year.
c. As well as multiplying vocabulary so that students will more easily
answer the question.
3. For parents and teachers
a. Parents and teachers need to increase their support, especially social
support awards while still encouraging when students face exams.
b. The teachers of SMP Negri 1 Barebbo in order to provide an
interesting way of teaching students, so that students are more
interested in learning and increasing student achievement motivation in
facing the National Examination.
c. The teachers of SMP Negri 1 Barebbo in order to provide rewards (in
the form of praise and appreciation for the values obtained by students)
and learning (in the form of support for students in learning), so
students are more interested in learning and increasing student
achievement motivation in facing the National Examination.
