Understanding verb function as a simple sentence component at the third semester of English study program students’ of IAIN Bone

This thesis present the research about understanding verb function as a simple sentence components at the third semester of English study program students’ of IAIN Bone. This research uses qualitative method by using descriptive design.In this thesis the researcher uses random sample.The researcher choosesome students of TBI class that consist of 9 students. The data the result of test and interview shows the description of students error in doing the test which given by the researcher. Meanwhile the students of TBI 2nd group answer the question list to know their understanding about verb function, sentence, and its’ components, Based on the result of the research there are some kinds of students’ error in constructing simple sentence: 1).The students are lack of definition, 2).The students are lack of part of speech understanding 3).The students are lack of verb form and functions understanding. The result describe that there are some factors fluent the students’ error: 1).The students perception because they think that grammar is quite complicated to learn, there are many kinds of its part (grammar). 2).The students are lack of grammar references. The students should enrich their knowledge about grammar as a part of English study program students.
A. Conclusion
Based on the identification it was found that the students understanding about verbs sentence and sentence component is fairly poor and they have to fix some kinds of error in sentence identification. There some mistakes did by the students for example Misspell, subject-verb agreement, error sentence structure, words identification and word’s function in sentence.
The problem face by the students because some of them do not have any knowledge about verbs function, sentence, and simple sentence components, or may be they are not understand well about the theory of it. More over there were not practice, do exercises or read any references about grammar regularly to avoid repeated mistakes.
B. Suggestion
Based on the explanation about the students understanding about verb function as a simple sentence component, the researcher would like to give some suggestions for both, for institution and students also for the teacher
1. For Campus: Campus should prepare facilities to make all students enrich their knowledge about English or other facilities to make the students enjoy the process of learning.
2. For Students: they should motivate themselves to learn English deeply because as students they have responsibility to make themselves able in their major.
3. For teacher : they should know the condition of their students, master some interesting method to make their students motivated to elaborate them selves in grammar class, build up their student’s knowledge by up to date grammar references.
