Analyzing the Effectiveness of Mnemonic Strategy to Students in Speaking Class at Eleventh Grade of SMAN 30 Bone
Andi Ayu Alviani Azis/02.16.4013 - Personal Name
The research purposes to know the effectiveness of mnemonic strategy in
speaking class and to know the students’ perception about mnemonic strategy in
speaking class. The research intended to answer the research questions: how effective
is mnemonic strategy in speaking class and how is the students’ perception after
applying mnemonic strategy in speaking. The research takes 10 eleventh grade
students of SMAN 30 Bone as the participants. In this research, the researcher used
descriptive qualitative method. The data obtained by using speaking test, then
followed by using interview. The final results showed that the use of mnemonic
strategy is effective in speaking class which was proved by the students’ speaking
result where from ten students seven students got good and very good speaking score
and only three students got poor speaking test score. Moreover, students’ perception
after applying mnemonic strategy in speaking is related to their feelings. It was
proved by the result of students interview where the students said that they feel
happy, easier, helpful and more confident when it is time to speak. It is assumed that
applying mnemonic strategy in speaking class is effective to students.
A. Conclusion
Based on the research findings in the previous chapter, the conclusion can be
concluded as follows:
1. The use of mnemonic strategy is effective to students in speaking class at
eleventh grade of SMAN 30 Bone which was proved by the result of speaking
test where three students got very good, four students got good and three
students got poor speaking test score.
2. The students’ perceptions after applying mnemonic strategy in speaking class
at the eleventh grade of SMAN 30 Bone was proved by the result of students’
interview. Students’ perception is related to their feelings, such as they feel
happy, relieved and feel more confident when it is time to speak, students feel
easier and very helpful by applying mnemonic in memorizing speaking
materials and also students can be more fluent in speaking practice.
B. Suggestion
In view of the research result, the researcher would like to offered suggestion
to be considered as follows:
1. For the teacher should apply mnemonic in teaching speaking so that the
student can find speaking is easier to do because mnemonic can help
students remember the speaking materials.
2. The students must practice speaking more in context to solve the difficulties
they faced in speaking. Practice applying mnemonic in speaking so they can
be more fluent in speaking practice.
3. The other researcher is suggested that may use the research results as
reference or information to conduct a research with the similar topic.
