Analyzing the Students Error in Writing Compound Complex Sentence at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 30 Bone

This research aimes to analyse the students error in writing compound
complex sentence. The focus is analysis the types and causes of students error in
writing compound complex sentence.
The research employed a descriptive qualitative research method with a
random sample. The data was collected through writing test, interview and
documentation. The subject of this research was students at the second grade of
SMAN 30 Bone. The study participated with 10 students Six students made error
in addition, three students made error in omission, two students made error in
miss ordering, four students made error in miss formation. There are 15 errors are
made by the students in types of grammatical error in writing compound complex
sentence by using recount text and there are five students made error that caused
inter lingual error and five students made error caused intra lingual error . The
data analysis was employed based on procedure of data analysis suggested by
Miles and Huberman that consisted of step reduction, display and verification
data. The result of this data described that The problem indicates the students are
weak in using punctuation, tend to use incorrect connector, and used incorrect
grammar and words selection, so they do not know how to connect the
independent clause and dependent clause correctly.
A. Conclusion
Compound complex sentence combines at least two independent clause
and at least one dependent clause.The result of observation compound complex
sentence, the research concluded that the 10 students made error in compound
complex sentence. Six students made error in addition, three students made error
in omission, two students made error in miss ordering, four students made error in
miss formation.There are 15 errors are made by the students in types of
grammatical errorin writing compound complex sentence by using recount text.
Based on the data analyses, it show that the students have problems in
writing compound complex sentence. It also found the students‟ problems in
writing compound complex sentence are addition and miss formation. The
problem indicates the students are weak in using punctuation, tend to use incorrect
connector, and used incorrect grammar and words selection, so they do not know
how to connect the independent clause and dependent clause correctly. Besides,
the highest error committed by the students in writing compound complex
sentence is omission and miss ordering.
B. Suggestion
Having seen the result of study, the following suggestions are offered to be
considered:
a. To students
a. The students should increase their efforts in learning grammar
b. The students should increase their effort in improving their knowledge in
learning English especially in error and grammar, when they are in the
classroom or in the other condition, they have to try to write sentence in
English.
c. By expressing the students idea though writer sentence as one of
alternative to accustom them to express idea by using English. It will help
them to memorize their vocabulary and will be beneficial to prevent or at
least to minimize the error.
b. To teachers
The teacher should inform kinds of the errors who made by the students
and explains the parts of the errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy. There
are: addition, omission, miss formation and miss ordering so that they are
realized what kinds of errors they commited. Besides the teacher must introduce
the surface strategy taxonomy technique to analyze their own errors when they
compose a sentence. By knowing this technique the students can identify by them
selves the errors when they are producing sentence and it may give them
motivation to study English grammar more.
c. To other researcher
The result of this research is also intended to give suggestion for further researchers
who are going to discuss the similar topic. The way to overcome the students‟
problem in the case of giving error addition, omission, miss formation and miss
ordering. The researcher also suggests to the next other researcher to develop a
research to improvement of students compound complex sentence.
