Analyzing the Students’ Understanding in Writing Compound Sentence at Eleventh Grade of MA Daarul Qur’an Pajalele

This study purposes to know the students‟ understanding in writing compound
sentence. The method of this research applied descriptive qualitative. The participants
of this research are students of the eleventh grade where seven students taken to get a
test and five students to be interviewed. The researcher chose MA Daarul Qur‟an
Pajalele as the place of doing research. There are two instruments used in this
research, they were writing test and structured interview form. Before giving test to
the students, the researcher applied a meeting where the students were given a simple
material about compound sentence. After giving a test, the research also did an
interview with the questions related to the students‟ understanding in writing
compound sentence explored. It seen by the result of the students tests where
dominant of them answer correctly, there were only three parts that showed
incorrectly. While the data from interview showed that some answers to the
questions related to the theory of students‟ understanding in writing compound
sentences. It proved that students already have an understanding related to writing
compound sentence. This is evidenced by the ability of students to explain, interpret
and also apply the process of writing compound sentences.
A. Conclusion
Based on the formulation of problems where researchers want to know the
understanding of MA Daarul Qur‟an Pajalele student in writing compound
sentences through two methods used, namely test and interview, the researchers
concluded that there were showed about the students understanding in writing
compound sentence. It seen by the result of the students tests where dominant of
them answer correctly, there were only three parts that showed incorrectly. While
the data from interview showed that some answers to the questions related to the
theory of students‟ understanding in writing compound sentences prove that
students already have an understanding related to writing compouns sentence. This
is evidenced by the ability of students to explain, interpret and also apply the
process of writing compound sentences.
B. Suggestion
Based on the conclusion above, the researcher put some suggestion as
follows:
1. For Teacher
The teacher should give the students more space to pay attention the
material in the class with some considerations. Firstly, identify the character
of students whether they are shy or confident enough. Secondly, the teacher
should give more material which deals with the students‟ knowledge
background. It aims to engage students‟ understading in learning. The teacher
could assign the students to explore more resource of English in internet.
2. For Students
The students should be aware that writing skills are skills that are not
easy to master besides there must also be special mastery for vocabulary and
grammar specifically so as to produce quality writing. One way that can be
forged is by increasing the practice both in the learning process and at home.
The students are supposed to maximize the technology to make all
simpler. They have the Handphone, so they can use it to serve the material
such as how to wrtie a good compound sentences.
3. For Researcher
For the future to prospective researchers who want to do research on
effective learning methods to improve writing skills, can make this research as
a reference. In addition, the researcher also hopes that prospective researchers
can produce better work in the future.
