The Teacher’s Feedback Technique in Teaching Reading at Mak Bina Insan Islami Bone

Feedback was one of important factor which support the success of students in
learning process. There were some feedback techniques which can be used by the
teacher. It was important to know what feedback technique and the reason why the
teacher used that feedback. This research focused on the analysis of feedback technique was often used by the teacher in teaching reading. Design of this research was descriptive qualitative to
analyze the data. The objective of this research was the teacher in MAK BINA
INSAN ISLAMI BONE. The data of this research were taken from observation and
interviewing the teacher and students. Based on the result of data analysis, corrective and evaluative feedbacks were often used by the teacher in teaching reading. Corrective feedback was used for 30 times or about 47% and evaluative feedback was used for 28 times or about 44%.
Students always need correction to making them aware of mistakes they have done.
By giving corrective feedback the teacher hope that it help to reduce students’
confusion about their mistakes and they will not make same mistakes. Evaluative
feedback was also often used by the teacher because students need motivation to
build their confidence in reading. Students got correction will feel scared and less of
confident and that will reduce their enthusiasm for learning. Therefore, giving praise
to them is very important.
A. Conclusions
In this research, the result shows that the teacher used corrective, evaluative
and strategic feedback technique. But corrective and evaluative feedback was often
used. Corrective and evaluative feedback has a little frequency difference. Corrective
feedback was used for 30 times or about 47% and evaluative feedback was used for
28 times or about 44%. While strategic feedback is used for 6 times or about 9%.
Based on the result of interview, corrective feedback was often used by
teacher because students always need correction to making them aware of mistakes
they have done. By giving corrective feedback the teacher hope that it helps to reduce
students’ confusion about their mistakes and they will not make the same mistakes.
Evaluative feedback was also often used by the teacher because students need
motivations to build their confidence in reading. Students get corrected will feel
scared and less of confident and that will reduce their enthusiasm for learning.
Therefore, giving praise to them is very important.
B. Suggestion
The researcher wants to give some suggestions to the teacher and students of
XII IPS in MAK BINA INSAN ISLAMI and also to the other researcher that might
be useful. The suggestions are:
1. For the teacher
The teacher should give feedback wisely because maybe it will have a
negative impact on students' mentality and will affect student achievement.
2. For students
Students must be more interested in learning English. They should think
that English is fun and easy to understand. People who speak English are cool
because English is not just a language but it is a life style. By assume like that, will
motivate students in learning English.
3. For other researcher
The result of this research is expected that it can encourage other
researchers to conduct further research dealing with teacher's feedback technique
in other skill areas or maybe conduct further research dealing about reading such
as improving students' achievement in reading comprehension by using some
feedback technique.
