The Use Of Warming Up For reading To Improve Students' Achievementh In Reading Skill (A Study Case at the Ninth Grade of SMPN 1 Sibulue)

This thesis presents the research about the use of warming up for reading to
improve students’ achievement in reading skill at the ninth grade of SMPN 1 Sibulue.
The problem statement of this thesis is whether the use of warming up improves
students’ achievement in reading skill.
The way in collecting data used true-experimental design with pre-test and
post-test. This was used to measure and interpret the data.
The table shows that the mean score obtained by the students in the post-test
(16.55) is greater than the mean score of the students in pretest (13.09). It means that
H0 is rejected and H1 is acceptable.
The use of warming up gives better result to improve the students’
achievement in reading skill. In other words, the use of warming up is effective to use
in teaching reading.
A. Conclusion
After calculating and analyzing the result of the use of warming up research in
the pevious chapter, it can be concluded that The use of warming up helps the
students of the ninth grade of SMPN 1 Sibulue to improve students’ achievement in
reading skill. Based on the data of mean score which have been explained in the
chapter 4, the mean score of pre-test is 13.09 and the mean score of post-test is 16.55
It means that the score of the students after getting treatment increases 3.46.The
standard deviation of the students pretest is lower than the result of the student’s
posttest. It means that the value has positively increased.
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclusion given before, some suggestions can be submitted as
follows:
1. Learning not only english but also the languages, there should have some
strategies that the teacher can apply in classroom teaching. Especially for reading
comprehension, most of the students can read well but it does not mean that they
can understand the point of the text better. So, the teacher should know the
students need. Therefore, they can apply a good strategy in their class. The use of
warming up can help the students to improve their achievement in reading.
2. The use of warming up, even though some of us claim that it is old strategy in
teaching reading comprehension, should not be ignored. The teachers especially
who teach reading can apply it but with new style and creativity. Maybe, some of
us assume that this strategy is only suitable for children in kindergarten and
elementary school but in researcher mind, it also can be applied by the english
learners. The most important is this strategy can help them to improve their
reading comprehension achievement.
3. In this information technology era, reading comprehension plays its important
role because all of us especially the internet users should have capability to read
and comprehend any information. As a teacher, there are many things that they
should learn about information technology so they will not get behind.
Developed country, for example, emphasizes more about information technology
so the teachers can apply it while teaching in classroom. Their creativity should
be widen so teaching activity in classroom will not be bored. There are many
websites that can be surfed to increase teachers’ knowledge like bbc learning
english, eslpod, and many more.
