Using Comics to Improve Students’ Narrative Writing Skill at the Eight Grade of SMPN 3 Watampone

This thesis presents research about Using Comic to Improve Students’
Narrative Writing Skill at the Eight Grade of SMPN 3 Watampone. The problem
statements of this thesis are: 1.) Does the use comics improve students’ narrative writing
skill. 2) Are the students interest to use comics to improve their narrative writing
skill?. This research used quantitative method. The sample consisted of 25 students at
the eight grade of SMPN 3 Watampone. The researcher gave pretest, treatments, and
posttest, while the data obtained through test were analyzed with mean score and of ttest
formula.
The result of the study showed that there was a significant improvement of the
students’ achievement after giving the treatment. It was provided in the table in
chapter IV. The mean score obtained by the students through pre-test is 63.84 and
post-test is 67.08 the t-test value was higher than the t-table (to the t-table (6.17 >
2.064) It means that H0 was rejected and H1 was acceptable. there were 24 students
(96%) got high and 1 student (4%) got moderate category. None of the students got
very high, low and very low interst in learning narrative writing by using comics.
Based on the data can be understood that teaching narrative writing by using
comic can improve students writing skill and improve students’ interest in studying
narrative writing text.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of the research on the previous chapter, the researcher
comes to conclusion. They are as follows:
1. Using comic gave the positive effect on students’ in narrative writing text. The
students’ improve in studying narrative writing after doing treament. It could be
seen that the students’ prior knowledge of reading was still low, it was provided in
the data that the students mean score in pre-test was 63.84 and it increased after
using comic. The students’ mean score in post-test was 67.08 and the students’
achievement t-test was 6.17 and the students’ achievement t-table was 2.064.
2. The students’ interest in studying reading by using comic was 24 students got high
(96%). And one students got moderate (4%). There were not students got very
high, low, and very low. Further, analysis shown that the mean score 74.12 which
was as high category. The data above indicated that the students were highly
interest in studying writing by using comics.
B. Suggestion
The researcher gives suggestions to all readers, as follows:
1. For the improvement of the teaching English, the researcher suggests to the
English teacher especially writing should apply the good media in teaching
English writing based on the students’ interest. One of the media is using comics.
2. For the other researchers, if you want to make a research you should give
explanation more to the students’ because some of students’ are lack of attention.
3. There are many media which can be used to increase students’ writing ability and
make the learning process more fun. Using comics is one of the media which can
be used or teachers can use another media which is appropriate with the subject
which will be learned.
