his thesis presents research about Describing Self Confidence in
Speaking English Performance at the sixhth semester of English education
program of STAIN Watampone. The problem statement is how is students’ self
confidence in speaking English performance at the sixth semester of English
Education Program of STAIN Watampone? Objective of the research was to find
out the describing of students’ self confidence in speaking English performance.
They can or not perform in Speaking with confidence or not.
The population of this research was the students at the sixth semester of
English educationl program of STAIN Watampone academic year 2016/2017,
which consist of four classes, namely TBI 1 consist of 21 students, TBI 2 consist
of 20 students, TBI 3 consist of 24 students and TBI 4 consist of 20 students. The
total numbers of population are 85 students. The researcher was apply the
purposive sampling technique. The researcher took a study case at TBI 3 at the
sixth semester of English Study Program of STAIN Watampone as the sample.
The researcher chose all of students of TBI 3 as participators of this research.
In conducting the study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative
method. The descriptive qualitative method is applied a description of the result of
students self confidence in speaking English performance. This was used to
measure the students’ self confidence when speaking performance in the
classroom.
Based on the data of analysis which has been found by the
researcher, it could be concluded that the there were some students that
have good self confidence in speaking English performance based on the
aspects which have been observed (body language, presentation content
mastery, and speed). On the other hand, there were also some students that
still less of self confidence and must be more practice in speaking.
A. Conclusion
After analysis the data based on the students’ speaking observation and
documentation, the researcher can describe the students’ self confidence in
speaking English performance. Based on the data of analysis, it can be described
of students’ self confidence in speaking English performance that there are some
students that had have good self confidence based on the three aspects which
have been observe (body language, presentation content mastery, and speed)
because they have been accustomed by practice. On the other hand, there are also
some students that still less of self confidence because of some factor such as
lack of vocabularies and nerveous to speaking performace infront of the
audience.
B. Suggestion
From the result of this research, the researcher suggest to the reader,
especially for the students in order that to be more serious in practice of
speaking specially to have good self confidence in speaking, because actually it
is very important to be speaking with good self confidence.
For the teachers, it is a very important to be understood that in teaching
speaking, beside teach about the components of speaking, there is also another
aspect that must be attention, that is self confidence.
