An Analyzing Correlation Words Category Method and Students’ Achievement in Learning English Vocabulary at SMP Negeri 5 Watampone

This thesis is about the use of words category method and students’
achievement in learning English Vocabulary at SMP Negeri 5 Watampone. The
purpose of this research is to know the use of words category method and students’
achievement in learning english vocabulary in SMP Negeri 5 Watampone. In this
study, the authors used a type of quantitave research method with a pretest and
posttest design to know the students’ achievement in learning english vocabulary by
using words category method. The instruments used in this research is pretest and
posttets. Sources of data in this research are all the students from VIII A grade in
SMP Negeri 5 Watampone.
The results showed that the student has achievement in learning English
vocabulary by using words category method. It could be seen from the result of the
pretest and posttest that have been given to 20 students as the object of research. The
result show that the score of students pretest is 1124, the posttest result is 1327.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher
concluded that:
Using words category method in students’ English Vocabulary increase
the students’ English Vocabulary. It was proved by the data of students’ score
in posttest or after giving treatement. The table of both score showed that
students’ mean score in pretest is 56.2 while in posttest or after giving
treatement is 66.35. The table of score The students’ English vocabulary
achievement increased after doing treatments by Using Words Category
Method. So, it concluded that the use of Word Category Method can improve
students’ English Vocabulary achievement.
B. Implications
In view of fact that the use of Words Category method in students’ English
vocabulary achievement has been proved being more effective in increasing
students’ English vocabulary achievement, the researcher would like to give
suggestion as follow:
1. The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the
classroom for teaching English vocabulary such us using varios media
like using Words Category Method.
2. The English teacher should apply Words Category Method as one of
the effective ways to stimulate the students’ ability in extending their
vocabulary achievement.
