Using Constructivist Approach to Enhance Students’ Comprehension In Reading Procedure Text at The Tenth Grade of MAN 2 Sinjai

This thesis presents the research about “Enhancing The Students’ Reading
Comprehension by Using Constructivist Approach (CA)”. The way to collect data by
using Quasi-Experimental design with pretest, treatment and post-test. The tests, pre
test and post test are given to measure the students’ reading achievement before and
after treatment. Based on the findings and the data analyzing in the preceding chapter,
the researcher draws conclusion that after using Constructivist Approach (CA) at
MAN 2 Sinjai is effective to increase the students’ reading comprehension. It can be
proved by the mean score of post test is higher than the mean score in pre test (81.80
> 72.20). It also can be proved by the sig.(2-tailed) of paired Independent sample t-
test is 0,02 < 0,05. So, it said that there is incresing in students’ reading
comprehension achievement after applying Constructivist Approach (CA) It means
that H 0 is rejected and H A is accepted.
A. Conclusions
Based on the research findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the
researcher has arrived at the following conclusions:
The researcher concludes that using Constructivist Approach (CA) enhance
students’ reading comprehension in procedure text at the tenth grade of MAN 2
Sinjai. It was proved with the higher mean scores of the students’ post-test (81.80)
than the students’ pre-test (72.20) and the probability value (0.02) was smaller than
the level of significance (0.05). It means that using Constructivist Approach (CA)
was effective in improving students’ reading comprehension in procedure text. Beside
that, there was a significant improvement of students’ reading comprehension in
procedure text by using Constructivist Approach (CA) than the conventional way
(without using Constructivist Approach). It was proved with the probability value
(0.409) was higher than the level of significance (0.05). So, it means that teaching
reading procedure text by using Constructivist Approach (CA) was more effective
than teaching reading procedure text by using conventional way.
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclusion gave before, some suggestions can be submitted as
follows:
In view of fact that the application of Constructuvist Approach (CA) has been
proved in building up the students’ reading comprehension, the researcher would like
to give suggestions as follows:
1. For the teacher :
a. The teacher was expected to know that Constructuvist Approach (CA)
could be reference in teaching Reading as one alternative teaching
technique and it was not only in teaching Reading but also for the others
skill.
b. English teachers should enhance their knowledge and their ability in
teaching. They should use an interesting technique to attract students’
attention and make the students learn comfortable and relaxed.
2. For the students:
The students of the tenth grade at MAN 2 Sinjai have to enhance their
ability and should be more active in reading text in order to have more
knowledge.
