Skripsi ini menyajikan penelitian tentang penggunaan cerita rakyat untuk
meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa pada siswa kelas dua SMAN 1 Bone.
Rumusan masalah tesis ini adalah: (1) Mampukah penggunaan materi cerita rakyat
meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa pada siswa kelas dua SMAN 1 Bone? (2)
Apakah siswa kelas 2 SMAN 1 Watampone tertarik pada materi cerita rakyat? Cara
pengumpulan data menggunakan desain pra-eksperimen dengan pre-test dan post-test.
Ini digunakan untuk mengukur dan menginterpretasikan data. Tabel ini menunjukkan
bahwa skor rata-rata yang diperoleh oles siswa dalam post-test (3,54) lebih besar dari
skor rata-rata siswa dalam pre-test (2,71). Ini berarti bahwa H 0 ditolak dan H 1
diterima. Skor data minat siswa yang diambil menggunakan kuesioner menunjukkan
bahwa 16 siswa (66.7%) memilih kategory sangat tinggi sementara 8 siswa (33.3%)
memilih kategori tinggi. Ini berarti bahwa siswa memiliki minat yang tinggi dalam
materi ini. Materi cerita rakyat memberikan hasil yang lebih baik untuk
meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Dengan kata lain, materi cerita rakyat
efektif dan menarik untuk digunakan dalam pengajaran menulis.
A. Conclusions
1. Based on the data analysis on the discussion, the researcher concludes
that Folktales material is effective to improve the students’ writing
ability. It can be seen that the students’’ prior knowledge of writing
before applying Folktales material is still low, it is provided by the data
that most of the students got poor and fair classification with mean score
of the students pre-test was 2.71.
2. Students’ of the second grade of SMAN I Bone are interest in Folktales
material. Itis significantly improved their writing ability and its showed
by the data that most of them got good, and good classification with
mean score of students post – test was 3.54.
B. Suggestion
In relation to the subject discussed in this thesis and in order to improve the teaching
of writing to the students, the researcher presents some suggestion as follows:
1. Folktales material is expected to be a reference for the teacher in teaching writing
as one alternatives teaching technique not only in teaching writing but also for
the other skill.
2. The teacher should teach by connecting the academic material with the students’
concrete live, because the students know more about their live and also can
describe their knowledge with other people by using English. It is well in writing
or speaking skills. Especially, in writing narrative text.
3. Researcher in the future is suggested that they could use these research findings
to investigate the student.
4. Folktales may become alternative technique in teaching writing especially in a
narrative text. Using folktales to teach writing is a good innovation. It can
stimulate the students’ interest in writing. By using pictures and guided
questions, the students are able to catch the ideas of what to write and arrange the
paragraph more easily. So the students will not find difficulties in getting ideas in
writing.
5. The teacher should match the folktales with the suitable material for Senior High
School students, so that the goal of the study can be achieved.
6. The teacher can find the references from magazine, book, newspaper, internet, or
make guided folktales by themselves based on their creativities in order to get
the students interest in writing activities.
7. The teacher should master classroom management so she/he can manage the
lesson well and no one of the students less concentration. And also, the teacher
should give attention to the weak students in comprehending the lesson.
