Using Dictation To Improve The Students' Vocabulary At The Eight Grade Students SMPN 4 Watampone

This research is aimed at finding out the significance using dictation in
improving the students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade students SMPN 4
Watampone.
The population of this research is at the eighth grade students SMPN 4
Watampone. which has 28 students. The writer applied cluster sampling.
This research employs one different instruments based on the problem
statements investigated, they are vocabulary test . Vocabulary test consists of pre-test
is given to the students to know the students’ vocabulary mastery before using
dictation and post-test is given to the students to know the students’ vocabulary
mastery after using dictation.
After several meetings, this research finds out the use dictation sigificantly
effective to improve the students’ vocabulary . The result of this research shows : (1)
the mean score obtained by the students through pre-test is 66,37 and post-test is
72,37, (2) the t-test value is higher than the t-table (18,39 > 2,056). It means that
there is a significant difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and posttest.
Therefore, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) is
accepted.
A. Conclusions
Based on the findings and discussion above, the researcher comes to conclusion
as follows :
Students’ vocabulary mastery before applying outdoor classroom-learning is still
low, it is proved by the data that the most of students get poor classification with
mean score of students’ pre-test is 67,57. Students’ vocabulary mastery after applying
using dictation is significantly improved their vocabulary, it is showed by the data
that most of them get very good score with mean score of students’ post-test is 75,85.
B. Suggestions
In view of fact that the application of using dictation in teaching vocabulary
as the teaching method, has been proved to be more effective in improving the
students’ vocabulary mastery and motivate in learning English vocabulary, the
researcher would like to give suggestions as follows :
1. For teacher :
a. The teacher should give the material well and should give their good
performance in the classroom. Besides, the teacher should pay
attention to the students’ activity while teaching learning process.
b. The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the
classroom for teaching vocabulary such as applying using dictation
c. To improve the students’ mastery and knowledge in vocabulary,
recommended for English teachers, especially to teach Junior High
School students in order to attract their motivation in learning
English to be more fun.
2. For student :
a. The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 4 Watampone have to
improve their vocabulary as an important thing in learning a
language.
b. The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 4 Watampone ough to
interested their self and manage their time.
