Ncreasing Reading Comprehension By Using Guided Note Taking Technique Of The Ninth Grade At Smp Negeri 1 Palakka

This research decribes about increasing reading comprehension by using
guided note taking technique of the ninth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Palakka. The
research used quantitative method by using pre-experimental research. The researcher
used pre-test and post-test to know students’ reading comprehension before and after
doing treatment. Then the data was analyzed by using t-test method to find out
whether there is significant difference between the achievement in reading
comprehension before and after being taught by using Guided Note Taking
Technique.
The research result, the mean score of pretest is 49.16 and the mean score of
postest 80. So, the hypothesis that states, there is a significant different between the
reading comprehension of the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Palakka in
academic year 2017/2018 after taught by using Guided Note Taking Technique is
accepted. So, it can be concluded that the guided note taking technique can increase
the students’ reading comprehension achievement of the ninth grade students at SMP
Negeri 1 Palakka.
Beside, the questionnaire result shows that Guided Note Taking Technique
can interesty the students of the ninth grade. Most of the students high category that
are 14 (77,78%) students and only 2 (11,11%) students in moderate category and 2
(11,11%) students in very high category. The researcher concludes that the data
indicated that Guided Note Taking Technique is highly interesting.
A. Conclusion
After calculating and analyzing the result of Pre-test and Post-test before
and after the application of Guided Note Taking Technique in the pevious
chapter, it can be concluded that:
1. Guided Note Taking Technique helps the students of the ninth grade at
SMP Negeri 1 Palakka to improve their reading comprehension. Based on
the data of mean score which have been explained in the chapter 4, the
mean score of pre-test is 49,16. It is lower than the mean score of post-test
is 73,1. So, it can be concluded that the Guided Note Taking Technique
can increase students’ reading comprehension.
2. The students’ interest of Guided Note Taking Technique according to the
result of the questionnaires which have been distributed shows that most
of the students appreciate this technique by choosing high category. The
number of students who choose this category are 2 students (11.11%), 14
(77.78) students choose high category and 2 (11.11%) students choose
moderate. No one chooses low and very low.
B. Implication
Based on the conclusion given before, some suggestions can be submitted
as follows:
1. Learning language generally and english specifically, there should have
some techniques that the teacher can apply in classroom teaching.
Especially for reading comprehension, most of the students can read well
but it does not mean that they can catch the point of the text better. So, the
teacher should understand the students need. Therefore, they can apply a
good technique in their class. Guided Note Taking Technique can help the
students to improve their reading comprehension.
2. The teachers should know the students reading style. Each student has
different style of reading. Sometimes, they are easy reading a text loudly
and the other students read it silently. Sometimes, they are pleasant
reading in group and the other students are pleasant alone. All of the style
influence the students reading comprehension.
