The Effect of Professional Competence of English Teacher In Improving The Students’ Reading Ability At Mts Al- Mubarak Tacipi

This thesis presents the research about the effect of professional competence
of English teacher in improving the students’s reading ability. The way to collect data
by used questioner and students’ reading test. The questioners were given to measure
the professional competence of English teacher and reading ability test are given to
measure the students’ reading achievement in reading. Based on the findings and the
data analyzing in the preceding chapter, the researcher drew conclusion that
professional competence of English teacher gave the positive effectin improving the
students’ reading ability. It couldbe proved byt > table (5,845>2,042). So, it said that
there was correlation between the professional competence of English teacher in
improving the students’ reading ability. It also could be proved by the linearity
significance is 0,019 < 0,05 means that has not linear relation between professional
competence variable and students’ readingability variable. It means that H 0 is rejected
and H 1 is accepted.
A. Conclusion
Based on the related the result of questioner and the english test, the
researcher conclude that, the professional competence of english teacher give
the positive effect in improving the students’ reading ability at MTs Al-
Mubarak Taccipi.Based on the result of testing using the SPSS 23 application
hen the obtained value of the intercept about 47, 971, while the regression
coefficient about 0,318 with a positive sign. Based on those results, the
obtained regression equation model Y= 47, 971 + 0,381 X.
The result concluded that there was the posittive effect of the
professional competence of the teacher because the students could read the
pessage well based on the teacher explanation and the students were interested
to learn english reading and their ability in reading could be develop. If the
professionl competence of the teacher rose 1, so the students reading ability
rose 0,381.
This result shows that H o was rejected and H 1 was accepted. It was
showed by the value the result of data analysis above shows that the value t>
table(5,845>2,042), so H 1 is accepted, it means that professional competence
of english teacher has correlation and give the positive effect with the
students’ reading ability.
B. Suggestion
The research outcome shows that there is an influence of
professional competence of english teacher in improving the students reading
ability. Therefore, the teacher should give more encouragement to the student
beside giving or transferring knowledge. Theacer should be more creative in
giving a lesson and use various teaching method, in order students can be
more comfortable and more interested in learning english.
Teacher should be stimulate motivation in learning and shoul let the
student like learning and find academic activities satisfied, therefore they can
be more active and better progress in learning English.
