Using Tourism Brochure Pictures to Generate Ideas in Improving Students’ Speaking Ability at the Eleven Grade of MAN 1 Bobe

This thesis presents the research about using tourism brochure pictures to
generate ideas in improving students’ speaking ability at the eleven grade of MAN 1
Bone.
The problem statements of this thesis are: (1) Is the use of tourism brochure
pictures useful to generate ideas in imrproving students’ speaking ability at eleven
grade of MAN 1 Watampone? (2) Are the students at eleven grade of MAN 1
Watampone interested in learning speaking through tourism brochure pictures? There
are two variables in this research. They are the independent variable (Tourism
Brochure Pictures to Generate Ideas) and dependent variable (students’ speaking
ability).
In this study, the researcher uses quantitative method because the researcher
conducts the data in form of numbers. The way in collecting data use total sampling
with pre-test and post-test. This is used to measure and interpret the data. The
purpose of this method is to carry out an experiment whether Tourism Brochure
Pictures improve the students’ speaking ability or not. The SPSS shows that the
mean score which is obtained by the students in the post-test (74,24) is greater than
the mean score of the students in pre-test (61,12). It means that H0 is rejected and H1
is acceptable.
The data score of students’ interest which are taken by using questionnaire
show that 17 students (51,51%) chose very high category, 13 students (39,39%)
chose high category while 3 students (9,09%) chose moderate category. It means that
the students have high interesting in tourism brochure pictures.
Tourism Brochure Pictures give better result to generate ideas in improving
students’ speaking ability. In other words, Tourism Brochure Pictures are useful and
interesting to use in teaching speaking.
A. Conclusion
Based on the result of data analysis, the researcher could take conclusion as
follow:
1. Tourism Brochure Pictures help the students of Eleventh Language class to
improve their speaking ability. Based on the data of mean score which have
been explained in the chapter 3, the mean score of pre-test is (61.12) and the
mean score of post-test is (74,24). It means that the score of the students
after getting treatment increases 13.12. The standard deviation of the
students’ pretest is lower than the result of the students’ posttest. Based on
the data analysis, the researcher knows that t-test bigger than t-table (16.01
> 2.036). It means that the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and null
hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Thus, the findings mean that taught by Tourism
Brochure Pictures given significant effect on the students’ speaking ability
was useful to generate students’ ideas in improving students’ speaking
ability. Using Tourism Brochure Pictures in teaching speaking is an
alternative to make the students more enthusiasm, interested and make the
students to be active in teaching. So, it concludes that Using Tourism
Brochure Pictures was useful to improve students’ speaking ability to the
students at Eleventh Language of MAN 1 Bone.
2. The interest of the students studying through Tourism Brochure Pictures
according to the result of the questionnaires which have been distributed
shows that most of the students appreciate this media by choosing very high
category. The number of students who choose this category are 17 students
(51.51%), 13 (39.39%) students choose high category. Only 3 students
(9.09%) chooses moderate. No one chooses low and very low. It means that
the students of Eleventh Language class at MAN 1 Bone interested in
learning speaking by using Tourism Brochure Pictures.
B. Suggestions
Based on the conclusion given before, some suggestions can be submitted as
follows:
1. Suggestion for the students
The students should be active in the classroom because in generating ideas
in improving students’ speaking ability through tourism brochure pictures,
the students are supported to be active in teaching learning process. It is
hoped that the students can improve their speaking ability.
2. Suggestion for the teacher
Learning language generally and English specifically, there should have
some techniques or media that the teacher can apply in classroom teaching.
Especially for speaking ability, most of the students can speak English but it
does not mean that they can speak fluently. So, the teacher should
understand the students’ need. Therefore, they can apply a good media in
their class. Tourism Brochure can help the teachers to improve the students’
speaking ability.
3. Suggestion for the next researcher
This research is not perfect yet, it is suggested for the next researcher to
conduct further researchers on the similar area, especially by Using Tourism
Brochure Pictures on teaching speaking. This study is very important
because it will give some knowledge to the researcher and to know the
benefits of Tourism Brochure Pictures in teaching speaking.
