The correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and listening comprehension in the eighth students of SMPN 4 Watampone

This thesis presents research about The Correlation Between Students
Vocabulary Mastery and Listening Comprehension at The eighth Grade of SMPN 4
Watampone.This research used quantitative method. The sample consistes of 40
students from two class of students of the eighth grade SMPN 4 Watampone. The
samples are chosen from two class groups randomly.
The result of the study shown that there is a significant correlation of the
vocabulary mastery and students listening comprehension. The result is proved by the
differences between the vocabulary mastery and students listening comprehension
and it could be seen r xy was highest than r table. For the level of significance df 38, the
value of the r-table was 0,2638in level 0,05. It meant H 0 was rejected and H 1 was
accepted.
Based on the data could be known that vocabulary mastery there was
correlation the students’ listening comprehension at the eighth grade students of
SMPN 4 Watampone.
A. Conclusion
Based on the findings and the data analyzing in the preceding chapter, the
researcher draws conclusion that vocabulary mastery is one strategy that correlation
students’ listening comprehension. It can be seen of the students of the eighth grade
SMPN 4 Watampone. The correlation between students vocabulary mastery and
listening comprehension in the eighth grade SMPN 4 Watampone are obtained that
the value of r 0 is 1.024 the degree of freedom ( df) is 38. In the table of degree of
significant of 0,05 and 0,01 the value of the degree of significant is 0,2638 and
0,3665. It means that H 0 is rejected and H 1 is accepted , it can be concluded that
correlation between students vocabulary mastery and listening comprehension in the
eighth grade of SMPN 4 Watampone Academic Year 2015/2016.
B. Suggestion
In view of fact that the application the correlation between students
vocabulary mastery and listening comprehension in the eighth students of SMPN 4
Watampone, the researcher would like to give suggestions as follows:
1. For the teacher :
The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the classroom for
teaching vocabulary such as listening comprehension in correlation vocabulary
mastery.
2. For STAIN Watampone:
As a state college of Islamic studies especially for the library should prepare
some books especially about English education to facilitate the English students to
improve their knowledge and make them easily to be found a reference.
3. For the student :
a. The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 4 Watampone have to correlation
their achievements, ability in English, especially vocabulary mastery.
b. The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 4 Watampone have to manage their
time to learn English.
