Improving students' vocabulary mastery by using semantic mapping technique at the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Amali

This research is aimed at finding out the significance semantic mapping technique in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at the eighth grade students’of SMPN 6 Watampone.
The population of this research is the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Amali which has 20 students. The writer applies cluster sampling. This research employs one different instruments based on the problem statements investigated, they is vocabulary test.
After several meetings, this research finds out the use of semantic mapping technique sigificantly effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. The result of this research shows : (1) the mean score obtained by the students through pre-test is 69 and post-test is 72.5, (2) the t-test value is higher than the t-table (11.10 > 2,093). It means that there is a significant difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test. Therefore, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This evidence is that semantic mapping technique is effective to improve vocabulary mastery of the students at the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Amali.
A.Conclusions
Based on the findings and the data analyzing in the preceding chapter, the researcher draws conclusion that use semantic mapping technique is one strategy that can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. It can be seen of the students of the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Amali that they have prior achievement of vocabulary mastery before applying semantic mapping technique is still low, the researcher was proved the data that the most of students got good score classification with mean score of students’ pre-test was 69. The students’ vocabulary mastery after applying semantic mapping technique is significantly improved their comprehension of vocabulary, it was showed by the data that most of them got good score with mean score of students’ post-test was 72.5. The t-test value is higher than the t-table (11.10>2,093). It means that there is a significant difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test. The use semantic mapping technique significantly in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery of at the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Amali Academic Year 2016/2017.
B.Suggestions
In view of fact that the application of semantic mapping technique in teaching vocabulary as the teaching method, has been proved to be more effective in improving the students’ vocabulary mastery and motivate in learning English vocabulary, the researcher would like to give suggestions as follows :
1.For teacher :
a.The teacher should give the material well and should give their good performance in the classroom.Besides, the teacher should pay attention to the students’ activity while teaching learning process.
b.The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the classroom for teaching vocabulary such as applying semantic mappic technique.
c.To improve the students’ mastery and knowledge in vocabulary, recommended for English teachers, especially to teach Junior High School students in order to attract their motivation in learning English to be more fun.
2.For student :
a.The students of the eighth grade of SMPN 2 Amali have to improve their vocabulary as an important thing in learning a language.
b.The students of the eighth grade of 2 Amali ough to interested their self and manage their time.
