The use of Herringbone technique to improve students reading comprehensionat the eight grade on SMPN 1 Bengo

This research is aimed to know to what extent the student’s readingrnComprehension and the students’ reading intersest by using Herringbone Technique at the eighth grade on SMPN 1 Bengo.rnThe population of this researchwas the eighth grade of SMPNrn1 Bengo which has 107 students. The writer used purposive sampling.rnAnd the researcher took VIII B and It was consists of 29 students.rnThe result of this research shows : (1) the mean score obtained by the students through pre-test was 44.137 and post-test was 74.482, (2) the t-test value was higher then the t table (2.099>2.048). It means there is a significant difference between the result of student’s pre-tests and post-test.rnIn data collection authors provide a questionare consisting of 20 statements that describe characteristics of Herringbone Technique. In task of questionary there was 6 students (20.68%) choose the very high category and 23 students (79.31%) choose the high category. It means that the students have a high interest in this technique.rnA. ConclusionrnBased on the findings and discussion above, the researcher comes to conclusion. They are as follows:rn1.The students’ reading comprehension before doing the treatment is still low, it was proved by the data that the most of students got poor classification with mean score of students’ pre-test was 44.13. students’ reading comprehension achievement after applying herringbone technique is significantly improved their reading comprehension, it was showed by the data that most of them got fairly good score with mean score of students’ post-test was 74.48rn2.The students’ interest in studying reading by using herringbone technique is high. The students are highly motivated in studying reading by using herringbone technique. And the mean score of the questioner was 83.89 which was categorized as high interested.rnB.Suggestionsrn1.The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the classroom for teaching reading such as using herringbone technique.rn2.The teacher should be creative in applying new technique for students to improve their reading comprehension and interest in studying readingrnrnrn
