USING PICTURE AND GUIDED QUESTIONS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT THE EIGHT GRADE OF SMP NEGERI 6 WATAMPONE

This thesis presents research about Using Pictures and Guided Questions to Improve Students’ Ability In Writing Descriptive Text at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 6 Watampone. This research used quantitative approach. It was quasy experimental method which two groups, the experimental and control class. The experimental class was given the treatment by using pictures and guided questions, while the control class was given the treatment by using conventional way without using pictures and guided questions. The data was obtained through test were analyzed with mean score and t-test formula by using SPSS 21 Analysis.rnThe result shows that the mean of post-test on the experimental class is 77.77 which are higher than the mean of post-test between experimental and control class is 66.87. in addition, the t-test value of post-test between experimental and control class is probability value (0.000) is smaller than (α) = 0.05. It means that there is a significant difference in improving students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using pictures and guided questions than by conventional way. Therefore, using pictures and guided questions can be used in teaching writing especially in teaching writing descriptive text.rnA.ConclusionrnBased on the research findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the study has arrived at the following conclutios:rnThe researcher concludes that using pictures and guided questions, the students can improve students’ ablity in writing descriptive text. It is proved with the higher mean scores of the students’ post-test (77.77) than the students’ pre-test (60.73) and trhe probabilty value (0.000) is smaller than the level of significance (0.05). It means that using pictures and guided questions is effective in improving students’ ability in writing descriptive text. Beside that, there is a significant improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using pictures and guided questions at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 6 Watampone than the conventional way (without using pictures and guided questions). It is proved with the probability value (0.000) is smaller than the level of significance (0.05). so, it means that teaching writing descriptive text by using pictures and guided questions more effective than teaching by conventional way.rnB.SuggestionrnOne of the obstacles that teache may face in teaching and leaning process is how to make the students interested in the teaching or how to promote the students’ interest to join the learning process well. If the students have high intereset in following the teacher, it will not be so difficult for the teacher to teach the lesson.rnBased on the result of the study, the writer suggests for English teacher, students and the next researcher as follow:rn1.For the English teacherrna.Pictures and guided questions may become alternative technique in teaching writing especially in a descriptive text. Using pictures and guided questions to teach writing is a good innovation. It can stimulate the students’ interest in writing. By using pictures and guided questions, the students are able to catch the ideas of what to write and arrange the paragraph more easily. So the students will not find difficulties in getting ideas in writing.rnb.The teacher should match the picture with the suitable material for Junior High School students’ so that the goal of the study can be achieved.rnc.The teacher can find the references from magazine, book, newspaper, internet, or make guided questioning and picture by themselves based on their creativities in order to get the students interest in writing activities.rnd.Before teaching and learning process, the teacher should prepare the technique or media well. It means that before using pictures and guided questions as a techniques in teaching writing, it is better if the teacher check whether the text can be classified as descriptive text or nor, whether the text is appropriate to their level or not.rn2.For the studentsrna.The students pay attention to the teacher when he or she gives the English lesson.rnb.The students encourage themselves to learn English especially writing a descriptive text.rnc.The students should learn the elements of good writing especially grammar and its application in the writing process.rnd.The students should practice their ability of writing from the simple to the complex.rn3.For the next researcherrnThey can make this study as their reference to conduct other researchers on the same field. They are also expected to be able to cover the limitation about this research; they can conduct a research with the same technique but in different genres.
