DEVELOPING STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH GROUP INVESTIGATION TECHNIQUE IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 2 TELLU SIATTINGE

This research present about Developing Students’ Reading Comprehention through Group Investigation Technique. The researcher only focus to improving reading comprehension students’ to make students’ more interest to learning English. This research imployed pre-exprimental method with pre-test and post-test design. There was two variables, they were independent ( is group investigation technique) and devendent variable (students’ reading comprehension). In collacting data, the researcher got the students’ by using a test reading namely reading test to find out the students’ comprehension. After data was collected and the result of the test was obtained to prove the hypothesis and esthablished the validity, researcher analyzed the value of t-observation. It was proved by the result of the students’ test. The result of the research indicates that the mean score obtained by the result students in post test (60,22) is higher than the mean score of the students in pre-test (40,99) and t-test (6,534) is higher than t-table (2.080). It can be known that Ho Is rejected and H1 acceptable. The of this study proves that teaching English through group investigation technique significantly to develop the students’ reading comprehension.rnConclussionrnBased on the researcher conducted in second grade at SMP Negeri 2 Tellu Siattinge in academic year 2016/2017, it can be concluded the student could develop their reading comprehension through group investigation technigue. To develop students’ reading comprehension of recount text, the student analyze schamatic structures concerning orientation, event, and re-orientation of any kinds of stories based on the reading text given then they have to retell the story with their group into a good order of recount text. It can be seen that the students’ prior knowledge of reading before applying Group Investigation Technique was still low, it was proved the data that the most of students got poor and very poor score classification with mean score of students’ pre-test was 40,90 but after the researcher applied Group Investigation Technique in the classroom, the mean score of students’ post test have ascending, it was 60,22. Besides, the t-test (6,534) is more higher than t-table ( 2.080) and it proves that the students’ reading comprehension increases significantly. Therefore,Group Investigation Technique develop the students’ reading comprehension achievement.rnSuggestionrnBased on the conclusion given before, some suggestions can be submitted as follows:rnFor the teacherrnLearning language generally and English specifically, there should have some techniques that the teacher can apply in classroom teaching. Especially for reading comprehension, most of the students can read well but it does not mean that they can catch the point of the text better. So, the teacher should understand the students need. Therefore, they can apply a good technique in their class. Group Investigation Technique can help the students to improve their reading comprehension.rnFor the students: rnThe students of the eight grade at SMP Negeri 2 Tellu Siattinge have to enhance their ability and should be more active in read reading text in order to have more knowledge.rn
