This thesis presents research about The Use of Team Word - Webbing to Develop Students’ Reading Comprehension in News Item Text at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 5 Watampone. The sample consists of 20 students of the eighth A grade of SMPN 5 Watampone. The problem statement of this thesis is: Does the use of Team Word-Webbing develop students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 5 Watampone?rnThis research employed pre-experimental method with pre-test and post-test design. There are two variables they are independent variable (team word - webbing) and dependent variable (Students’ reading comprehension). In collecting the data, the researcher got the students’ data by using a test namely reading test to find out the students’ reading comprehension in English. After the data was collected and the result of the test was obtained to prove the hypothesis and to establish the validity, the researcher analyzed the value of t-observation. It was proved by the result of students’ pre-test and post-test. rnThe table shows that the mean is obtained by the students in the post-test (59.25) is greater than the mean score of the students in pre-test (44.75). It means that H0 is rejected and H1 is acceptable. The result of this study proves that Team word - webbing is significantly develop the students’ reading comprehension in reading text. It is hoped to the teacher to use team word - webbing in teaching reading English text.rnA.Conclusion rnBased on the result of analysis in the previous chapter, the researcher states that using Team Word-Webbing in teaching reading news items increases the students’ reading comprehension. It is provided in the data that most of the students mean score in pre-test was 44.75 and it increased after applying team word-webbing technique. The students’ mean score in post-test was 59.25 and the students’ achievement t-test was 14.50 and the students’ achievement t-table was 2.093. The mean score of pre-test is higher than the mean score of post-test and t-test is higher than t-table. Thus, the researcher states that the use of Team Word-Webbing is effective to increase students’ reading comprehension in news items to the students of the eighth grade at SMPN 5 Watampone.rnB.Suggestion rnThe researcher hopes that this research can be the one of the references for the further research dealing with reading. The researcher also hopes that this research can give more information about teaching reading by using Team Word-Webbing technique.rnrnrnrnrn
