Increasing the Students’ Vocabulary by Using Brainstorming Technique at SMPN 6 Watampone

This thesis presents research about Increasing the Students’ Vocabulary by
Using Braistorming Technique at SMPN 6 Watampone. There are two variables in
this research. The independent variable is teaching and learning vocabulary by using
brainstorming technique and the dependent variable is increase the students’
vocabulary. This research use quantitative method. The sample consist of 27 students
especially in class VIII G at SMPN 6 Watampone. The researcher gave pre-test,
treatments and post-test, while the data obtained through test were analyzed with
mean score and the formula of t-test. The experimental design was given pre-test, the
treatment and post-test by using brainstorming technique. The result of the study
showes that there was a significant increase of students’ vocabulary. The result of this
research are: (1) the mean score obtained by the students’ through pre-test was 50,37
and post-tes was 80,55, (2) the t-test value was highler than the t-table (3,312>2.056).
Based on the data could be concluded that teaching vocabulary by using
brainstorming technique could increase the students’ vocabulary at SMPN 6
Watampone.
A. Conclusion
Based on the research findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the
result has arrived at the following conclusions:
It showed that the mean score for the students in the post test (80,55) and
was greater the pre test (50,37). And this proved that the vocabulary of students
increased after treatment. After the students using brianstorming technique
students vocabulary increased significantly. It was supported by the t-test value
was greater (3,312) than the table value (2.056). It can be concluded that the
students got good achievement in mastering vocabulary after taught by using
brainstorming technique. The students vocabulary mastery increase and
significantly better than before taught, so teaching vocabulary by using
brainstorming technique increase students’ vocabulary at the eighth grade of
SMPN 6 Watampone.
B. Suggestion
There are some suggestions in relation with the implementation of
brainstorming technique that hopefully could be useful for teachers who wants to
conduct brainstorming technique in their classroom and also for researchers who
will conduct a study in the same topic.
a. For students
The students should be active in the classroom because in
brainstorming technique the students are supported to be active in teaching
learning process. It is hoped that the students can increase their vocabulary.
b. For teacher
1. The teacher is supposed to stimulate and motivate students’ in learning
vocabulary.
2. Before teaching and learning process, the teacher should prepare the
technique or media well.
3. The teacher should be creative to manage the material and the classroom
for teaching English vocabulary such us using varies strategy like
brainstorming technique.
c. For researcher
As this research is not perfect yet, it is suggested for the next
researcher to conduct further researchers on the similar area, especially by
using brainstorming technique.
