The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Type Teams Games Tournament to the Student’s Vocabulary Mastery at The Eighth Grade Students of Mts. Irsyadussalam Cakkeware

The problem in this research is the low level of mastery of the English
vocabulary at the grade VIII MTS. Irsyadussalam Cakkeware village of Cakkeware
subdistrict of Cenrana. The purpose of this study was to describe the application of
the cooperative learning model type Teams Games Tournament and described the
students’ vocabulary mastery by using cooperative learning model type Teams
Games Tournament. This type of research is the action research classroom that forces
cycle that includes planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The source
of the data in this study are students, researchers and teachers (teacher) (peer
reviewed). The technique of data collection is done with text, observation, and
interviews. Data analysis techniques used in this research is qualitative, data analysis
technique that consists of data reduction, calculating the student’s correct answer of
the test, describe the data and make conclusions based on the description of the data
Research results are analyzed, showing that: 1) the application of the
cooperative learning model type Teams Games Tournament at MTS. Irsyadussalam
Cakkeware is done well and experienced an increase of each cycle. It can be seen
from the results of the observation activities of the teacher on the cycle I gained a
percentage of 70% with good qualifications and cycle II obtained percentage 85%
with very good qualifications. And the results of the observation activities of the
students in cycle I gained a percentage of 70% with good qualification, and cycle II
gained a percentage 96,6% with very good qualification. 2) Cooperative Learning
type Teams Games Tournament is effective to the students’ vocabulary mastery at
MTS. Irsyadussalam Cakkeware village of Cakkeware subdistrict of Cenrana that can
be seen from each cycle of the lesson. It can be seen from the test and tournament
results in every cycle. It can be seen that the score of the first cycle of 27 students
only 16 completed with the percentage of completeness reached 59.2%, while in
cycle II, the percentage of completeness has increased from 27 students only 23
students are complete and 4 students are not complete with the percentage
Completeness reached 85.1%. While the results of the tournament with a numbered
card on cycle I of 30 number of cards numbered 28 card were answered and the 2
cards were wasted and cycle II all numbered cards were answered.
A. Conclusion
Based on the existing phenomenon in field then it can be concluded that:
1. The application of the cooperative learning model type Teams Games
Tournament at MTs Irsyadussalam Cakkeware village of Cakkeware
Subdistrict of Cenrana is done properly. It can be seen from the results of the
observation activities of the teacher in the cycle I gained a percentage of 70%
with good qualifications, and cycle II obtained percentage 85% with very good
qualifications, and the results of the observation activities of the students in
cycle I gained a percentage of 70% with good qualification, and cycle II gained
a percentage 96,6% with very good qualification.
2. Cooperative Learning type Teams Games Tournament is effective to the
students’ vocabulary mastery at MTS. Irsyadussalam Cakkeware village of
Cakkeware subdistrict of Cenrana. It can be seen from the test and tournament
results in every cycle. It can be seen that the score of the first cycle of 27

B. Suggestions
Based on the results of the above research, implications that can be presented in
this study are:
1. Develop an attitude of creative and innovative teachers in finding and learning
strategies or methods of creating are interesting and fun so that it can increase
the motivation and vocabulary students.
2. The teachers have to improve the quality of teaching by applying a fun
