This thesis present the research sbout the application of cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) tecnique in teaching reading comprehension at SMPN 5 Wtampone. In reading comprehension the students always find some difficulties to know what the writers try to deliver. So, they cannot comprehend well the text given by the teacher. CIRC technique is one of the solution to improve students reading comprehension. The researcher used quantitative method because the researcher conducted the data form of numbers. The way to collect data by used pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. The tests, pre test and post test were given to measure the students’ reading comprehension before and after treatment. Based on the findings and the data analyzing in the preceding chapter, the researcher draws conclusion that after using cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) technique in teaching reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 5 Watampone is effective to improve the students’ reading comprehension. It can be seen that the students’ prior knowledge of reading before applyingof cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) was still low, it was proved the data that the most of students got fairly and poor score classification with mean score of students’ pre test was 65.30 but after the researcher applied cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC) in the classroom, the mean score of students’ post test have ascending, it was 71.3.
